How many hours have U.S. Wii owners reported playing GoldenEye? GoldenEye 007 Data Report

Coffee Beans
If you are looking for information on the contest/giveaway you will find the link for it in the "Caffeinated Thoughts" section below.

GoldenEye 007 was released on November 2, 2010 for the Wii, and the game was originally announced as a Wii "exclusive" at its E3 2010 reveal. I wrote a post titled, "Can GoldenEye 007 (Wii) Legally be Ported to the Xbox 360 and PS3?" on November 9, 2010, in which I listed the reasons why I thought the game not only could be ported, but would be ported to the other consoles. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with the subtitle "Reloaded" added to it, the following year on November 1, 2011.

GoldenEye 007 received an ESRB rating of "Teen" with "Blood, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Violence" listed as content for gamers and parents to be aware of. The game was developed by Eurocom, and published by Activision for the U.S. release.

How many hours have U.S. Wii owners reported playing GoldenEye 007 since the game released? If you're a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 owner interested in GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, how many hours can you expect from the game according to the Wii's reported data? Brew yourself some coffee, and let's take a look!

GoldenEye 007 - Covert Operations Hours Report

Coffee Beans
GoldenEye 007 was released one year ago for the Wii, on November 2, 2010.  When the game released it had a MSRP of $49.99, but has since seen a price drop and can be found for under $30.
GoldenEye 007 received a "Teen" rating from the ESRB with "Blood, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Violence" listed as content for parents/gamers to be aware of.

How many hours have Wii owners spent covertly taking out enemies, and each other, in GoldenEye 007 over the last year?  Let's take a look!

FPS Friday! GoldenEye 007 and Conduit 2 Hours Report

Coffee Beans
Do you know that FPS games are horrible on the Wii?  Do you know that the Wii is for kids, and Nintendo fanboys stuck in the 80s and 90s?  Do you know that when it comes to FPS games on home consoles, graphics matter more than actual game-play?

Well, if you do not know these things, you should go read more sites like IGN, Destructoid (most of their Wii FPS reviewers seemed to enjoy them, they just have had low/no Nintendo coverage of the Wii, and seem to ignore tips about legitimate Nintendo things from developers), Joystiq, and basically every "modern" game site that exists that doesn't contain the word "Nintendo" in its title, and you will become well versed in "modern game language" and the understanding that graphics trump game-play, AND that Nintendo is for the kids!

While there are many video game "journalists" that seem to think the words "Wii FPS" do not belong together(and to some those words might not even exist), as evidenced by their written opinions in reviews and articles, I think they are 100% wrong. I digress!

GoldenEye 007 was released on November 2, 2010 and Conduit 2 was released on April 19, 2011.  Conduit 2 received an overall lower "professional" review score average, so does it appear from reported game-play data that Conduit 2 is not as enjoyable as GoldenEye 007, proving that the "professionals'" opinions were right?  Let's take a look!

June Brewed - Coffees Consumed, Games Played

Coffee Beans:
June is over?  Really?  E3 has come and gone, and now we know a little bit about Nintendo's next console, the Wii U, though I really haven't expressed my thoughts about the system in a written piece here on the site...perhaps this month?

July is here, and it's going to be crazy busy(more on that later), so let's take a quick look at the games I played in June, and the coffees I consumed.

How to Fix GoldenEye 007's Default Controls

Coffee Beans:
While GoldenEye 007 on the Wii is a very solid FPS game, I think one area that was overlooked by Eurocom was the default control setting.  A default control setting should work well without players having to go into control options to adjust anything unless they want to adjust something, but I found GoldenEye 007's default Wii Remote and Nunchuk control setting to have an issue that needed to be fixed.
When I noticed the control issue, it was very apparent, and that this issue somehow slipped by the play-testers is baffling to me, unless perhaps Eurocom didn't play-test the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls, and other control settings, past the first level in the game(or perhaps I'm the only one to experience this?).

What was the control issue I had with GoldenEye 007's default control setting?  Watch the video below to see the issue, and how I resolved it:

Also, to see GoldenEye's default controls, and my current customized control settings, take the jump past the break below to view an image of them both!

May Brewed - Coffees Consumed, Games Played

Coffee Beans:
May was an interesting month for me.  Being that I had finished up school(and am out for the summer), I started looking for summer work.  I was hoping that whatever job I got might turn into a good part-time job when school starts back, but wasn't sure how quickly something would happen in this job market.  I ended up landing a job at Chick-Fil-A, and have been gainfully employed for about the last 3 weeks.  My first day of training I tried the coffee, and I also had it my second day, though I forgot to add it to my "Coffees Consumed" for May.
So, with a new job and my same spastic nightly schedule, what coffees did I consume and games did I play during May?  Let's take a look!

FPS Friday Video - GoldenEye 007 Multiplayer Match on Jungle

Coffee Beans:
A few weeks back I saw GoldenEye 007's list price drop to $39.99 on Amazon.com, and I put up a post about it.
One of the regular readers here, Robert, saw the price drop on the game and after debating a little while on it, decided to purchase it.  After he received the game, we hopped online one night and played a few matches of the game's "Team Conflict" mode.  Here's a video of one of our matches from GoldenEye's Team Conflict mode, on the game's Jungle map.

GoldenEye 007 - Nightclub Multi-player Match

Coffee Beans:
As I stated in my "April Brewed - Coffees Consumed, Games Played" post yesterday, I played some GoldenEye 007 online multi-player with Robert(fellow reader), and Keith from RespawnAction.com, during April.
The video below is of a match Keith and I played on the Nightclub map, and it was a Team Conflict match:

GoldenEye 007 - New List Price and Sale!

Coffee Beans:
GoldenEye 007 was released on November 2, 2010 as an exclusive for the Nintendo Wii.  The game released with two versions: a standard software only version with a MSRP of $49.99, and a Golden Classic Controller Pro bundle with a MSRP of $69.99.  Well, it appears one online retailer has jumped the gun, and already lowered GoldenEye 007's "List Price" for the software version only.

While browsing Amazon.com, I noticed they had(still have) the standard GoldenEye 007 software version on sale for $29.99!  I thought that was an incredible price, and then I noticed the "List Price:" that Amazon.com shows for the game.  Amazon.com now has "List Price: 39.99", instead of the original $49.99.  You can see it in the picture below:

Filtered Thoughts:
I think it's very interesting seeing Amazon.com being the first retailer to lower GoldenEye 007's "List Price" down to $39.99.  It's only been 5 months since GoldenEye 007 was released, and I wonder if this is Amazon.com just making a price drop move first on GoldenEye 007, or if they are following instructions from Activision.  I think it's interesting that Call of Duty: Black Ops on the Wii still has its original "List Price" of $49.99.
Anyway, if you haven't seen any footage of GoldenEye 007's online multi-player, below is a video of a Team Conflict match on GoldenEye 007's Memorial map:

Dustin, from MyLittleGamer.Blogspot.com, was on my team in the video above, and his name was Elephantman.
If you already own GoldenEye 007 and play it online any, feel free to add my friend code to your list.  My friend code is: 2043-7355-3797.

Questions:
Does GoldenEye 007's new list price of $39.99 make you more likely to buy it if you haven't purchased it? Or, did you already click "Add to Cart" and get the game for $29.99?

If you're interested in GoldenEye 007, you can see both bundles on Amazon.com linked below:

GoldenEye 007 vs Call of Duty: Black Ops - Data Report

We last looked at a direct comparison of GoldenEye 007's and Call of Duty: Black Ops' reported game-play hours back in December, on Christmas day!
In that report, Call of Duty: Black Ops had more hours reported than GoldenEye 007, but Black Ops had fewer players reporting the data, than GoldenEye.

In the 92 days since the last report, have GoldenEye 007 players kept pace with Call of Duty: Black Ops players on the Wii?  Let's take a look!

GoldenEye 007's Multi-player Black Box Videos - Defense

Coffee Beans:
About a week and a half ago, I wrote a post titled, "GoldenEye 007's Multi-player Black Box Mode - Defense".  In the post I explained the objective of being on the "defensive" team in Black Box matches, and I included a multi-player video showing one of the matches I had played.

If you aren't subscribed to my YouTube Channel, I just uploaded two more Black Box videos from GoldenEye 007's online multi-player that you may have not seen.  In both videos, I was on the "defensive" team, and hopefully these videos will give you a better idea of how the matches normally go:

GoldenEye 007's Multi-player Black Box Mode - Defense

The description for GoldenEye 007's Black Box multi-player mode reads, "MI6 must locate and destroy the black box.  The enemy must pick it up and download data from it.  The winning team is whoever completes their objective first."
Earlier this month I wrote about GoldenEye 007's Black Box mode and I specifically talked about playing on the MI6 team, with the objective to destroy the black box.  You can read the post "James Bond's GoldenEye 007 Black Box Mode - Offense" HERE, and a video is included in the post showing me playing on the "Offense" team.

Defense - If you're the "enemy" team, as the description reads, your objective is to download the data from it.  You "download data" from the black box by carrying it around for a certain period of time.  I label this team as the "defensive" team, because you're trying to protect the black box from the other team.
The black box is picked up when any of the players on the enemy team runs into/over it.  You don't have to press any button to grab it, just simply run into/over the black box, and your player will pick it up.
The players on the other team, MI6, can't pick the black box up, so you don't have to worry with them running off with it.
When you pick up the black box, you need to be aware of two things:
     1)  You sprinting ability is basically useless, BECAUSE if/when you try to sprint, you drop the black box
     2)  You're switched to a pistol for your main weapon, and you can't switch to your other weapons unless you drop the black box

If what you just read isn't clear, hopefully the following video will show you how GoldenEye 007's Black Box mode is supposed to play out, when you're on the "enemy" team and have to "download the data" from the box.

Filtered Thoughts:
I really think the enemy "defensive" team is at a disadvantage compared to the MI6 "offensive" team, in GoldenEye 007's Black Box mode.
The reason I think the enemy team is at a disadvantage is because the carrier of the black box is basically penalized with slower movement and by having their regular weapon choice, switched to a pistol.
Also, if the black box can be destroyed in under a minute, legitimately; then that gives the "offensive" team another advantage, because as the video shows it takes about 1 Minute 30 Seconds of holding the black box to download all the data from it.

So, when playing the Black Box mode and you're on the enemy team, I would highly suggest finding a corner that has limited entrance for the enemies, as I did in the video.  The "offensive" team was only able to come at me from my front and right sides, so I didn't have to worry with my back or left sides.
Teamwork is probably the biggest factor of surviving though, and if it weren't for my teammates providing excellent defense for me, there's no way we would have won that match.

If anybody is playing GoldenEye 007 on a regular basis online, feel free to add my friend code - 2043-7355-3797, and leave your friend code in the comments, or email it to me.

Questions:
Have any of you been playing GoldenEye 007's multi-player lately on the Wii?  If so, are you finding yourself playing any particular multi-player mode more regularly than the others?  My most played mode would be Team Conflict.
Also, if you play the Black Box mode a lot, do you have any tips for winning when playing as the "offensive" or "defensive" teams?

FPS Friday - GoldenEye 007 Report

Coffee Beans:
What is "FPS Friday"?  Well, it's a new feature I'm going to try and stick with, where I report at least one Wii FPS' game-play hours every Friday, and/or provide general thoughts on any FPS I may have recently played....starting today!

For this first "FPS Friday" feature, I'll be doing a game-play data report, as well as including a multi-player game-play video, for GoldenEye 007 on the Wii.
We last looked at GoldenEye 007's reported game-play hours, as they were recorded on December 20, 2010; just 5 days before Christmas.

How much has GoldenEye 007 been played in the weeks since the Christmas and New Year's holidays?  Let's take a look!

Hours shown are for the United States of America, not world-wide
Approx. Number of Players Reporting Data:
GoldenEye 007 now has 30,975 Wii owners reporting their game-play hours through the Wii's Nintendo Channel.

Reported Player Increase:
How many more players have reported play-time data for GoldenEye since the Christmas and New Year's holidays?
GoldenEye 007 has seen an increase of about 15,924 more gamers reporting game-play data, since the hours from December 20.

Average & Total Game-Play Hours Reported:
GoldenEye 007 now has 496,450 Total Hours of game-play reported, an increase of 259,452 Total Hours in the last 4 weeks.
The average play-time for GoldenEye 007 has increased to 16 Hours 1 Minute "Per person" reporting data, which is an increase of 16 minutes over the last report.
GoldenEye 007's average play-time per session has decreased slightly and is now just over 2 Hours 17 Minutes.

Sale Rank & Advertised Price:
GoldenEye 007's Amazon.com sale rank is #249, and is currently selling for $39.96.
(Sale rank and price recorded around 10:30PM, on 1-21-11)

Review Score Averages:
GoldenEye 007's "professional" review score average is now 84.19%, based on 57 reviews on GameRankings.com.

GoldenEye 007, the software version only, has a 4 out of 5 Stars rating on Amazon.com, based on 78 customer reviews.
The Golden Classic Controller Pro bundle also has a 4 out of 5 Stars rating on Amazon.com, but it's based on 47 customer reviews.
GoldenEye 007's software only version and the Classic Controller Pro bundle have review score averages of 76.92% and 80.85% respectively, when converted to a 100% review scale.  You can see the customer review scores in the image below:
(Review score averages recorded around 10:30PM, on 1-21-11)

Filtered Thoughts:
I have shown a few of the multi-player levels in GoldenEye 007 for the Wii, through different game-play videos.  Here's a multi-player video of a Team Conflict match that I played on GoldenEye 007's map, Outpost:

On the reported data, I think the overall number of players reporting data is good so far for GoldenEye 007, though I think it's going to be interesting seeing how fast it increases over the next few months, now that the holidays have passed.
The "Total Hours" reported are pretty good, but are actually lower than I expected them to be at this time.  I thought they would have crossed at least 500,000 right around/after Christmas, considering how much Activision talked about this game before it released; but that should happen this next week instead.
GoldenEye 007's Amazon.com sale rank is also lower than I thought it would be at this point after its release, especially when compared to some other Wii games released in the last few months.

If any of you are still playing GoldenEye 007's online multi-player on a regular basis, please add my friend code 2043-7355-3797 to your list, and leave a comment or email me your code.
I would love to hop online with some fellow CoffeewithGames readers, and play a few rounds online, and perhaps a few different modes as well.

Questions:
Have any of you been playing GoldenEye 007 in the last few weeks, and if you received the game over the holidays, have you completed its single-player campaign?
If you have been playing the game's online multi-player, what is your Level/Rank so far?  I think I'm around Level 19...I have a long way to go!

If any of you are interested in GoldenEye 007 for the Wii, you can see prices for the game listed and linked on Amazon.com below:

James Bond's GoldenEye 007 Black Box Mode - Offense

They're not really black!
Real world black box photo found on ScrapeTV.comHERE!
Coffee Beans:
You may remember my post back on December 4, titled, "GoldenEye 007's Black Box Online Multi-Player Glitch?".  I showed, and talked about, what I think is a glitch that can be exploited in GoldenEye 007's Black Box online multi-player mode, causing the black box to be destroyed faster than it should be.
I hopped on GoldenEye's online the other night, and played a few more rounds of the Black Box mode, and the matches played out like they were supposed to.  The video I recorded that showed the Black Box "glitch" happening was the only time I have had it happen.
Again, if you missed my Black Box glitch video post, you can read/see it HERE!

How is Black Box mode supposed to work without a glitch?
Well the description from the game says, "MI6 must locate and destroy the black box.  The enemy must pick it up and download data from it.  The winning team is whoever completes their objective first."
Offense - If you're on the MI6 team, as the description says, you must destroy the black box.  I say you're on the "offense", because you're having to attack something repeatedly.
The way you destroy the black box is by repeatedly shooting it with your guns, and throwing your grenades and/or mines at it.
As simple at that may sound, the problem is the enemy team is trying to defend the black box and carry it away, and attempting to kill you as you're attempting to destroy it/them.

If that read like a foreign language and you didn't understand it, here is a video showing a Black Box match, while I was on the MI6 team.  Again, my team's objective in the match shown was to destroy the black box.  Here's the video:

Filtered Thoughts:
I haven't played all of the modes in GoldenEye 007's online multi-player yet, but I really, really, enjoy Black Box.
I think what I enjoy most about the Black Box matches I have been in is the intensity of the matches.  Most of the matches have resulted with both teams running and gunning almost the entire match, and the mode can deliver a great sense of desperation, depending on how the match is going for your team.

I had written in my last post about GoldenEye 007's Black Box mode, "...one team is designated to destroy the "black box", that is actually orange(don't ask me why)...", and Brad Jerger (The Butcher), of WhoBurnedMyToast.Blogspot.com, left a comment that reminded me why it is orange, not black.
He said, "Black boxes were originally black in airplanes back in the day until they realized, 'Hey wouldn't it be easier to find them if they were painted a really bright color?'"

I think it's interesting that the black boxes in airplanes started off black, but changed colors to make them easier to find...kind of like many people's coffee starts off as black, but once they add all the sugar and cream, the color has changed and it's easier for them to drink!

Questions:
If you have GoldenEye 007, what is your favorite multi-player mode?  If you are playing the Black Box mode on a regular basis, have you experienced the glitch I showed/talked about in December?

If you are interested in GoldenEye 007 for the Wii, you can see prices on Amazon.com linked below:

Call of Duty: Black Ops versus GoldenEye 007 - Hours Played Before Christmas

Coffee Beans:
We last looked at Call of Duty: Black Ops' and GoldenEye 007's game-play hours from the data reported on November 29.  You can read the report, HERE, in which I compared both games' debut game-play hours, and showed which game had a higher play-time after the first 21 days each released.

Do the reported game-play hours for Call of Duty: Black Ops and GoldenEye 007 from November 29, 2010 to December 20, 2010, appear to show one of these Wii FPS games is clearly pulling ahead of the other?  Let's take a look!

Hours for the United States of America, not world-wide.

Approx. Number of Players Reporting Data:
GoldenEye 007 now has 15,051 Wii owners reporting their game-play hours.
Call of Duty: Black Ops now has 12,310 Wii owners reporting their play-time data, through the Wii's Nintendo Channel.

Number of Players Increased Since November 29:
GoldenEye 007 has seen an increase of about 5,887 gamers reporting play-time data, since the game-play data recorded on November 29 to December 20.
Call of Duty: Black Ops has seen an increase of about 6,129 gamers reporting their game-play hours, since November 29.

Average & Total Game-Play Hours Reported:
GoldenEye 007 now has 236,998 Total Hours of game-play reported, an increase of 118,920 Total Hours since the last report.
The average play-time for GoldenEye 007 Wii is 15 Hours 45 Minutes "Per person" reporting data, and the average play-time per session for GoldenEye is 2 Hours 21 Minutes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops now has 340,349 Total Hours of game-play reported, an increase of 219,741 Total Hours also since the last report.
The average play-time for Black Ops Wii is 27 Hours 39 Minutes "Per person" reporting data, and the average play-time per session for Black Ops is now 3 Hours 6 Minutes.

Sale Ranks & Advertised Prices:
GoldenEye 007's, software only, Amazon.com sale rank is #105, and is currently selling for $43.99.
GoldenEye 007's Golden Classic Controller Pro bundle Amazon.com sale rank is #331, and is currently selling for $70.00 from a third party vendor.

Call of Duty: Black Ops' Amazon.com sale rank is #44, and is currently selling for $39.54.
(Sale ranks and prices recorded around 12:30am on 12-25-10)

Review Score Averages:
GoldenEye 007's review score average is 84.00%, now based on 54 "professional" reviews on GameRankings.com.
Call of Duty: Black Ops' review score average is 82.21%, now based on 14 "professional" reviews on GameRankings.com.

GoldenEye 007 has seven more review scores in its average, and Black Ops has an additional five review scores in its average.  The increase of review scores, has caused both games to decrease in their overall "professional" review score average.  Call of Duty: Black Ops has seen a 2.01% drop to its review score since December 6, while GoldenEye 007 has only dropped .11%.

Filtered Thoughts:
I think it will be interesting to see if one, or both, of these games get a significant increase in players reporting game-play hours in the next 2 weeks.  I really wonder how many copies of GoldenEye 007, and Call of Duty: Black Ops are sitting under Christmas trees as I'm typing this, waiting to be opened in a few short hours.
I would say based on the game-play hours reported so far before Christmas, Call of Duty: Black Ops will continue to be the "most played" Wii FPS game released in 2010.  It may not have the most number of players reporting data, but Black Ops players are clearly playing it more often and for longer periods of time according to the reported data, than GoldenEye 007 players.
I'll be watching them both in the coming weeks, but I hope all of you have a merry Christmas, and get to spend time with friends and family...perhaps even drinking some coffee and playing video games with them!

Question:
Are any of you expecting to get, or did any of you already get, either Call of Duty: Black Ops or GoldenEye 007 for Christmas this year?
If any of you do get GoldenEye 007, and you plan on playing the game's online multi-player, please add my friend code to your list: 2043-7355-3797

If you have Christmas money to spend, and are interested in Call of Duty: Black Ops or GoldenEye 007, you can see prices for both on Amazon.com linked below:

FPS Battle: GoldenEye 007 versus Call of Duty: Black Ops

Coffee Beans:
GoldenEye 007 was released on November 2, 2010; and Call of Duty: Black Ops was released a week later, on November 9, 2010.  Both games have a regular software version available for $49.99, while GoldenEye 007 also has a Golden Classic Controller Pro bundle version, with a MSRP of $69.99.  Call of Duty: Black Ops is the first Wii game released, that uses the new PDP Headbanger Chat Headset.

Both GoldenEye 007 and Call of Duty: Black Ops took 21 days from their release date, for their first reported game-play data to appear on the Wii's Nintendo Channel.  While I covered the debut of each game separately, this post will compare the data for both games directly.
So, in the first 21 days after GoldenEye 007 and Call of Duty: Black Ops released, did Wii owners spend more time in James Bond's universe, or in Sergeant Viktor Reznov's?  Let's take a look!

Game-play hours shown are for United States of America Wii owners, not world-wide.
Approx. Number of Players Reporting Data - 21 Days After Release:
GoldenEye 007 had 6,579 Wii owners reporting play-time data for its debut.
Call of Duty: Black Ops had 6,181 Wii owners reporting play-time for its debut.

Black Ops had 120,608 Total Hours of reported game-play when it debuted, on November 29, 2010.  Its average play-time "Per person" was 19 Hours 31 Minutes; with an average play-time, per session, of just over 3 Hours 17 Minutes.

Sale Ranks & Advertised Prices:
Amazon.com's sales ranks are updated on an hourly basis, so there can be a wide range of factors influencing a game's sale rank.  With that said, I'm providing the recorded sales ranks of both games, from the days I posted the game-play data debuts; as well as the current sales ranks of both games.
On November 22, 2010 around 4:35PM EST, I recorded GoldenEye 007's following sales ranks and prices:
GoldenEye 007's, software only, Amazon.com sale rank was #90, and it was advertised for $47.45.
GoldenEye 007's Golden Classic Controller Pro Bundle sale rank was #250, and its advertised selling price was $67.99.
On November 29, 2010 around 11:15PM EST, I recorded Call of Duty: Black Ops' Amazon.com sale rank as #78, and selling for #49.99.

The current sales ranks & advertised prices for the games are:
1:  GoldenEye 007's, software only, Amazon.com sale rank is #61, and is selling for $47.76.
2:  GoldenEye 007's Golden CCPro bundle Amazon.com sale rank is #110, and is selling for $59.96.
     3.  Call of Duty: Black Ops' Amazon.com sale rank is #44, and is selling for $45.99.
(Current sales ranks and prices recorded around 1:00AM on 12-6-10)

Review Score Averages:
GoldenEye 007 had a review score average of 83.58%, based on 40 "professional" reviews on GameRankings.com; 21 days after it released.
Call of Duty: Black Ops had a review score average of 84.22%, based on 9 "professional" reviews on GameRankings.com.

GoldenEye 007 currently has a review score average of 84.11%, based on 47 reviews.
Call of Duty: Black Ops currently has a review score average of 84.22%, based on 9 reviews.
(Current review scores recorded around 1:00AM on 12-6-10)

Filtered Thoughts:
Number of PlayersGoldenEye 007 had 398 more Wii owners reporting their play-time data for its debut, than Call of Duty: Black Ops did.
Considering that Activision focused mainly on promoting GoldenEye 007 for the Wii with lots of interviews and trailers, while releasing little, to no information, screens, or trailers for Call of Duty: Black Ops on the Wii; the number of players reporting play-time data for Call of Duty: Black Ops is closer to GoldenEye 007's number of players, than I thought it would be.

Number of HoursCall of Duty: Black Ops had 46,162 more reported game-play hours for its debut, than GoldenEye 007 did.  Black Ops' average time played "Per person" was 8 Hours 12 Minutes higher, than GoldenEye 007's; and Black Ops' average play-time, per session, was 45 minutes higher, than GoldenEye's.
I really expected GoldenEye 007's debut play-time hours, to be ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops' debut hours; due to Black Ops lack of promotion on the Wii.  Even with GoldenEye 007 initially having more players reporting data, Call of Duty: Black Ops' average and "Total Hours" played, I think shows that some Wii owners do enjoy the "hardcore" FPS games.

Sales Ranks & Review Scores - Right now, I'm sure a lot of Wii owners have one, or both, of these games on their Christmas lists; so I think it will be interesting to see how both games continue to perform, after the Christmas holiday.
As for the review score averages, I think it's pretty clear Activision's promotion of GoldenEye 007 on the Wii, helped get the game into more "reviewers" hands.  The current number of reviews on both games, 47 for GoldenEye and 9 for Black Ops; I think shows that Activision didn't really bother with sending out Wii review copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops, and just focused on GoldenEye.

I was really surprised that both GoldenEye 007 and Call of Duty: Black Ops took 21 days to have game-play data debut.  While 21 days is definitely not bad, there are a few third party games that have debuted in only 2-weeks.
I really think it was because Nintendo, or Activision, was late in getting the games listed on the Nintendo Channel, and when the Nintendo Channel had its weekly updates, 2-weeks after each game released, no data was provided because the games weren't listed.

Now, some of you may be wondering, "Well, GoldenEye 007 didn't have as many hours for its debut, but how is it comparing now?"

As you can tell from that image, even with a week head-start, GoldenEye 007 is still behind Call of Duty: Black Ops' reported game-play hours, which just debuted this past week.
I am still playing GoldenEye 007 on the Wii, and enjoying it; and I am also playing Call of Duty: Black Ops, but I'm playing that on my PS3.
If Black Ops' online multi-player is running smoothly on the Wii, I think from this initial data, that it will continue to have higher game-play hours and averages reported.

Questions:
If you have played GoldenEye 007 and Call of Duty: Black Ops on the Wii, what do you think of both games?  Do you think Black Ops will continue to be played more than GoldenEye?
If you have only played one of these games, which game have you played, and what do you think of it?

GoldenEye 007's Black Box Online Multi-Player Mode Glitch?

Coffee Beans:
I have been playing more GoldenEye 007 online multi-player in the last 2 days, trying to get some gaming in before school starts back and finals.
Before yesterday and today, I had basically been playing the Team Conflict multi-player mode, in GoldenEye 007's online.  Well, last night I tried the Heroes mode, and tonight I tried Black Box mode.  They are both very interesting additions to the typical Team Conflict mode, and I'll be providing more coverage of both in a future post.
This post though, is about the Black Box mode, and if there is a glitch in it.  Basically the idea of Black Box mode, is one team is designated to destroy the "black box", that is actually orange(don't ask me why); while the other team's objective is to download intelligence from the "black box", by having a person on the team carry/hold it.
Now, I was able to get a good idea for how long it takes to download the intel, and win the match; if that's your objective.  The issue I have, is shown in the following video:

What's the issue?  Well, the slowest time shown in the video to destroy the black box, 34 seconds; it takes more than DOUBLE that time, to download the data from the "black box".

Questions:
So, is GoldenEye 007's Black Box mode not balanced properly?  Was the player, Kplmondo, just really well equiped at level 33, and I have to get there first to destroy it that fast(again, a balance issue)?  Or, is this a glitch that he knows and is somehow exploiting, that perhaps Eurocom can fix?  If you have experienced this, leave a comment and let me know what you think the issue may be.  If you have played Black Box and never seen this, leave a comment letting us know also.

James Bond's Hours of Espionage! GoldenEye 007 Report

Coffee Beans:
GoldenEye 007 was released on November 2, 2010; already one month ago!  Last week, we looked at the debut game-play hours for James Bond's latest Wii game, and the initial game-play data looked encouraging.  If you missed GoldenEye 007's Wii play-time data debut, you can read the report, HERE!
Like last week, I'm including another GoldenEye 007 online multi-player match video, with this week's data report in the "Thoughts" section.

How many hours of espionage have gamers participated in James Bond's GoldenEye 007 universe, since last week's report?  Let's take a look!

The hours shown above are for the United States of America Wii owners, not world-wide.
Approx. Number of Players Reporting Data:
GoldenEye 007 now has 9,164 Wii owners reporting their play-time data, through the Wii's Nintendo Channel.

Player Increase Since Last Report:
GoldenEye 007 has seen an increase of about 2,585 Wii owners reporting game-play data, since last week.

Average Hours & Total Game-Play Hours Reported:
GoldenEye 007 has 118,078 Total Hours of game-play reported, an increase of 43,632 reported game-play hours since last week.
GoldenEye 007 currently has an average play-time "Per person" of 12 Hours 53 Minutes, and a average play-time per session of just over 2 Hours 27 Minutes.

Sale Ranks & Advertised Prices:
GoldenEye 007's, software only, Amazon.com sale rank is #43, and it's currently selling for $35.99.
GoldenEye 007's Golden Classic Controller Pro bundle Amazon.com sale rank is #47, and it is currently selling for $49.99.
(Sale ranks and advertised prices captured around 12:30AM, on 12-3-10)

Review Score Averages:
GoldenEye 007's review score average is now 83.98%, based on 46 "professional" review scores on GameRankings.com.  The current review score average for GoldenEye 007 has slightly increased over last week's, which was 83.58% based on 40 reviews.

Amazon.com's customer review score averages are still showing a 4 out of 5 Star rating, for both versions of GoldenEye 007.  The software version only has increased by four customer reviews, and the Golden Classic Controller Pro version has increased by five customer reviews, since last week.  You can see the Amazon.com customer review scores breakdown below:
(GameRankings.com and Amazon.com review score averages captured around 12:30AM on 12-3-10)

Thoughts:
I think it's really interesting that Amazon.com is already discounting GoldenEye 007 pretty significantly for a newly released title.  The Golden Classic Controller Pro version is currently discounted by 29%, from its MSRP; while software version only of the game is discounted 28% from its MSRP.
Amazon.com is known for having great deals, but I just find it a little odd for both versions of GoldenEye 007 to be discounted this much, so soon.  The game-play data reported for the game has been solid for a third party Wii game, and I think sales for the game will be pretty decent through the Christmas holiday; which is why I think the price cut is a little odd right now.
If you are interested in purchasing GoldenEye 007 for yourself, or as Christmas gift for somebody you know, now is probably a good time to watch the prices on Amazon, and get it is discounted.

As for my play-time with GoldenEye 007, my "Game-Play Records" show I have played 48 Hours 20 Minutes.  All of that probably isn't straight game-play though, as sometimes I'll leave the game running on the menu screen, and I have spent some time just recording footage of different things in the game.
My reported online multi-player "Time Played" is currently 17 Hours 54 Minutes, and that is a close reflection to my actual time playing the online multi-player.  Speaking of the online multi-player, below is a video from GoldenEye 007's multi-player map, "Industrial".  In the video, I was playing with TheButcher, from WhoBurnedMyToast.Blogspot.com, and we were communicating via GMail voice-chat, and it worked pretty well:

I am still playing and enjoying GoldenEye's online multi-player, and I have started working my way back through the single-player campaign on the "Agent" difficulty setting.  I like that the added objectives on "Agent" have already let me see a few different areas of the levels, that I didn't notice or go through my first time playing it.
Anyway, if anybody has any questions about GoldenEye 007 on the Wii, feel free to ask in the comments below, or send an email to Scott(@)CoffeewithGames.com.  If you already own GoldenEye 007 for the Wii and are playing it online, my GoldenEye 007 friend code is 2043-7355-3797, and my in-game name is Coffee.  Feel free to add me and leave your friend code in the comments, or you can email it to me.

Questions:
If you own GoldenEye 007, about how many hours have you played the game so far?

The debut game-play hours below are for the United States of America Wii owners, not world-wide.  From November 2 through November 22, how many hours of espionage have Wii owners participated in James Bond's GoldenEye 007?  Let's take a look!

Average Hours & Total Game-Play Hours Reported:

The debut average play-time, per session, for GoldenEye 007 is just over 2 Hours 32 Minutes.

Amazon.com shows two sets of customer review scores for GoldenEye 007.

Randomness:
I'm not sure if it was Nintendo or Activision, but somebody took longer than usual getting GoldenEye 007 listed on the Nintendo Channel.  I had been checking for the last few weeks, and the game wasn't even listed, until last night.  Though the game appeared last night, it didn't have any play-time data showing, until it was updated today.
Also, now that GoldenEye 007 is listed on the Nintendo Channel, the "copyright" text below it is incorrect.  Again, that could be Nintendo putting up the wrong information, or Activision just sending the wrong information over.  Here's the "copyright" text that is showing beneath GoldenEye 007 right now:

Apparently, Activision(or Nintendo) wants GoldenEye 007 to be associated with Cabela, and the Cabela hunting games?

Thoughts:
GoldenEye 007 is off to a good start with the game-play data shown, and I think the game will continue to see steady increases each week throughout the Christmas/holiday season.
I have been playing GoldenEye 007 on a regular basis since I purchased it.  I completed the single-player campaign back on Friday, November 5(early Saturday technically).  I plan on going back and completing the single-player campaign on all the difficulty settings, but I am enjoying the online multi-player in the meantime.
If you haven't seen any footage from GoldenEye 007's online multi-player, here is a video of a Team Conflict match, played on the Facility level:

If anybody has any questions about GoldenEye 007, feel free to ask in the comments, and I'll do my best to answer it.  If you own GoldenEye 007 and are playing it online, my friend code is 2043-7355-3797, and my in-game name is Coffee.

Questions:
If you own GoldenEye 007 for the Wii, what are your thoughts on it?  What do you enjoy about it, and is there anything you don't enjoy about it?
