The Walking Dead to Wii U? Walkers don't talk, neither does Telltale Games?

Somebody, or THING, needs some coffee.
Coffee Beans
The Walking Dead episodic games series by Telltale Games is currently available for PC/MAC owners, PlayStation 3 owners, Xbox 360 owners, and iPhone/iPad owners. The series currently has four episodes available to play, and Episode 5 is scheduled for release in December.

After seeing the first two seasons of The Walking Dead on Netflix and finding it interesting, I contacted Telltale Games about the possibility of The Walking Dead episodic games series releasing for the Wii U, since I have the system reserved and because they do have a history of developing an episodic games series on a Nintendo platform.

No answer is usually an answer, but in this situation I have no clue what that answer might be. Maybe my questions weren't clear enough? I know walkers don't talk, at least that's what I have heard, but apparently from my email communications neither does Telltale Games. Brew yourself some coffee, and hit the jump to see my questions emailed to Telltale Games.

The Brew
The video above contains more communication attempts from walkers, than I have received from Telltale Games in regards to my questions. Nintendo has the famous (or, infamous) policy that when someone asks them about a rumor, news leak from a developer/publisher, or information that Nintendo hasn't said directly themselves, even if the information is true, they respond with, "We do not comment on rumors or speculation."

Well, I have now reached out to Telltale Games four times by email, and once on their Twitter account. Here is the timeline of my emails to them, and the questions specifically about if The Walking Dead games series is coming to the Wii U:
  • October 7, 2012 - "Are there any plans, perhaps not yet announced, to bring The Walking Dead series to the Wii U?"
  • October 13, 2012 - "Are there any plans to bring The Walking Dead games series to the Wii U's eShop?"
  • October 16, 2012 - "Are there any plans to bring The Walking Dead games series to the Wii U's eShop?"
  • October 18, 2012 - "Are there any plans to bring The Walking Dead games series to the Wii U's eShop?"
If you're wondering, every email was not just asking only that question. In one of the emails, I linked Telltale Games to the data report on Strong Bad's Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner that I had written, and I even specified that I am planning on picking up a Wii U Deluxe Set day one. To make sure that the emails weren't being filtered, I even used a different contact email from their site for one email, seeing if I could perhaps get a response from that one. No such fortune though, not even a walker growl, or moan, for response.

Say...cheese?

Caffeinated Thoughts
Telltale Games could have easily pulled a Nintendo type of response with, "We have worked with Nintendo in the past, but we don't have anything to announce now." Or, "We don't respond to questions about games series for consoles that haven't been announced yet.", but nothing. Not a "Yes, it is in the works, more later.", or a "No, it's not happening at this time.", or even "Maybe, we're not sure."

With The Walking Dead episodic games series being on the other consoles and mobile platforms via the iPhone and iPad, I imagine that Telltale Games would like the series to have the largest audience possible. I also imagine that Nintendo would like more digital game choices for Wii U owners the day the system releases. With how popular this particular episodic games series has become, I would think this would a great offering for Wii U owners, and a great opportunity for Nintendo and Telltale Games.

I'm hoping this will be a surprise announcement before the Wii U launches, and that The Walking Dead episodic games series will be available for Wii U owners to purchase day one from the eShop. If not, I'm planning on grabbing the game for my PC, because I have heard a lot of good feedback on the writing in the games and the tough decisions that players are faced with making.

Questions
Do any of you think The Walking Dead episodic games series will release for the Wii U's eShop, like I'm hoping it will? If it does, are any of you interested in getting the series on the Wii U, and perhaps selecting your choices by tapping them on the Wii U GamePad?

Are any of you fans of The Walking Dead show/novels in general, but perhaps haven't played the episodic games yet?

You can purchase The Walking Dead games series from Amazon.com below, currently for just $14.99 which is a 40% savings:

  1. This seems like a somewhat natural fit. A lot of what they suggest in the games like button taps, or to 'slide along the car' could be handled with a touchscreen. Considering the popularity of the games and that they seem to be selling well, I think it's reasonable to expect them to show up on the Wii U. The TV show and its current success helps as well, I bet.

I haven't played any of them, so I'm not really familiar with how they play out, other than point-and-click from what I've heard. As for the popularity of the games and TV show, I didn't realize until doing this post that they are planning a RETAIL release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 for the series, but it will be priced at $29.99 instead of the $25 digital price. Not really sure what/if any extras are being included with the physical copies, but knowing the physical copies are hitting the other consoles, I really do hope Nintendo gets this to the Wii U in some fashion.

  3. It's mostly made up of button presses (or repeated button presses) to make decisions within the context of the scene from what I have seen so far (my son spent a few hours playing the other day as I did some work over the weekend, so I was watching him)

I had just read about the physical release as well. Like you, I take that as a positive sign. :)

Yeah, I had no clue about it until I was doing this post, as a matter of fact... I kept on glancing over them on Amazon thinking they were Activision's The Walking Dead FPS game releasing I think January? (I see December 31st listed, but I think it's a placeholder date.)

    Thanks for the feedback!
