Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Beats Down No More Heroes 2?

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars Beats Down No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle?

On January 26, 2010, Wii owners in America were given two very anticipated games to buy, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.
Some Wii owners probably bought just No More Heroes 2, some probably just bought Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and some Wii owners probably bought both games(lucky, all of you!).

Which game is being played more?

Your eyes aren't seeing things, here's the beat down breakdown:

"Total Hours" Reported Played:
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom debuted this week on the Nintendo Channel, 20 days after it released, with 82,655 "Total Hours" reported played on the Nintendo Channel.
No More Heroes 2 reported zero "Total Hours" reported played*.

Number of Players Reporting Data:
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom had 7,003 players reporting data for its first showing on the Nintendo Channel.
No More Heroes 2?  None reported yet.

GameRankings.com Review Scores Average:
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom's review score average is 85.78% based on 34 reviews.
No More Heroes 2's  review score average is 87.27% based on 22 reviews.

Amazon.com's Sales Rank:
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars's Amazon.com sale rank is #247 and is currently selling for $45.99.
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle's Amazon.com sale rank is #400 and is currently selling for $46.99.

Thoughts:
If you're saying, "I've played No More Heroes 2 and beaten the game, why aren't there any hours showing?"
A game must first get to 50,000 "Total Hours" reported, before the data appears for the game(at least that's the trend with all game debuts, 50,000+ "Total Hours reported).

I find it interesting that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars is a series first debut on the Wii in America, and No More Heroes 2 is a sequel, but Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is seemingly outperforming No More Heroes 2.
There were "rumored" January NPD numbers, that showed Tatsunoko vs. Capcom sold twice as many units as No More Heroes 2.  If those numbers are true, I wonder if that's because Capcom actually advertised Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and Ubisoft didn't advertise No More Heroes 2, with a television commercial?

I do find it troubling for No More Heroes 2 that the game hasn't debuted on the Nintendo Channel yet.
One big reason I think is because No More Heroes 2 doesn't have any online play of any sort.
If 50,000 is the minimum "Total Hours" for a game to debut, that would be only 5,000 players, playing the game for 10 hours, and having that reported on the Nintendo Channel.
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom has online multi-player, so the players of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom are more likely signed up on the Nintendo Channel to have their data reported.

Questions:
Did you purchase either No More Heroes 2 or Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, or both of them?  If so, what do you think of them?  I haven't purchased either one, though I am interested in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, because I haven't purchased a good fighting game in a long time.

If you're interested in these games, you can see them on Amazon.com and what the current selling price is, on the pictures below:

*Notes:  Data collected off the Nintendo Channel on Monday, February 15, 2010.  Image for No More Heroes 2 was produced because there was no data showing for the game.  Number of players reporting data is rounded down the nearest whole number.

  1. I haven't purchased either game yet TvC really appeals to me though because I thoroughly enjoyed Marvel vs Capcom 2. I don't have any desire to play No More Heroes it just doesn't really appeal to me.

  2. @NintendoGamer:
    I haven't purchased a fighting game since Tekken 4. TvC just looks like they put a lot of time and effort into it and the online play is something that really appeals to me.

    Same as you though, No More Heroes 2 just doesn't appeal to me.

  3. NHM 2 has no multiplayer or online modes ! why would anyone buy it ! I bought TVC DAY ONE ! I would of bought NMH 2 if it had atlease wm+ support and a online fighting mode

  4. TvC looks awesome and a friend texted me over the weekend telling me he bought the game package that includes the cards and the arcade stick...yet he doesn't have a Wii yet. That's dedication.

    I will probably get TvC soon though. I really enjoyed MvC2. The thought of playing Zero and Megaman's dog Roll is humorous to me.

  5. Ha, I love the people that still validate games with "does it have online multiplayer".
    Anyway, I noticed an anomaly. I know that this isn't going to be very common, but I play with my Wii calendar set to exactly a year in the past due to some Animal Crossing catching up that I've been trying to do. I noticed that the Nintendo channel didn't even query me about NMH2 until I set my calendar to the present day. Strange, I wonder if its only reporting my play time that is after the actual release date. In which case its only about 3 hours.
    Even if it does count everything, it IS a single player game, 1 playthrough is about 10 hours. A second to get 100% of everything doesn't take much longer because you don't have to earn as much money.
    There is however, the Deathmatch mode which will definitely keep me busy with the game for some time to come.
    But yeah, this isn't at all unexpected to me. I was expecting NMH2 to go out in limited release, it is almost an indie game really, almost. I think it would be hard to find now.
    I'm glad to see TvC doing so well. I will be getting that eventually. I'm really perplexed as to why we don't have Street Fighter 4 yet. And, to rub salt into the wound, its been announced/rumored for iPhone and PSP. Two ways to play in which I can't imagine the game being at all controllable. OK, PSP would be better than iPhone I guess, but still.

  7. I didn't buy NMH2 because it's just going to get a port on the X360/PS3 like part 1 is? And Why would I waste my money on the Wii when the company is a sell out. Suda should have fought hard to hold on to his baby but he lost his nutz in the toilet and now its landed on the X360/PS3! This is a problem why 3rd party companies don't do well on Wii because there are hard core gamers out there that know how 3rd parties are to treating use with bad games just like they did in the past! What you think we don't pay attention to who makes these games?

    Better think again and start making the real game that core wants? Stop thinking and bust out a full on action game that we need. This is no need to talk about a game for the Wii when its in develop states and surprise us when its down and then maybe it will sell because people will say wow when did this come out and be all over it! But then again what 3rd party out there listen to there fan base when there all about the money now?

  8. I got No More Heroes2. It is great. Its a game made for gamers. I see people complaining about multiplayer. God of War doen't have multiplayer. Assasin's Creed doesn't, Zelda doesn't, Bayonetta doesn't. If you like those games this appeals to you.

    You are stupid if you think your going to wait for No More Heroes on other systems. Its going to be 3 years after the original to be realesed in Japan. We are done with the sequal for a year before you get the first in Japan. Maybe you'll get the sequal in 2014.

    Thats like me braging about geting God of War 2 on 360 next year. I'll wait for God of War 3 to be released on 360 in 2014 in Japan! That shows you ps3. See that agrument is stupid, and filled with logical falicies.

    Suda made a great artist game for the gamers. It is a lot of fun. I also want to pick up TvC down the line.

  9. The info above is actually reasonable. Both titles were launched the same day, and the estimated sales of TVC was twice that of NMH2. Even then if you keep all other info constant (% players online, Number hours played/player) then it would make sense that NMH2 would have half the total playtime (about 41,000 hrs) then it won't have gotten to that 50k hour threshold.

    Otherwise, it is also reasonable to assume that TVC with a robust online will have garnered more hours from it's players than NMH2 which is intensely single player. In the long run, I don't think the disparity of sales or players will be that great, but I do think that TVC will have much more hours logged on the Wii due to the multiplayer aspect.

    Otherwise, I definately plan on getting NMH2 after I am done with Muramasa, but TVC has really impressed me so far and might jump it for me.

    Yea, it is interesting that NMH2 didn't use WM+. I wonder if it's because the game was already past the early development period, and they didn't want to delay it.

    @Nicodemus at Nite:
    Crazy dedication. Now I wonder if he'll have trouble finding a Wii to buy? Did he mention why he didn't buy a Wii with the game?

    @Thaddeus Venture:
    "Even if it does count everything, it IS a single player game, 1 playthrough is about 10 hours."
    I was just surprised that NMH2 didn't debut yet, even though it's only a single-player game.
    I thought that NMH2 was going to sell more than TvC, because NMH2 was a sequel to a Wii game.

    @Anonymous from February 17, 2010 10:22 AM:
    I'm just not interested in NMH2, TvC, I am though. I wasn't interested in the first NMH, and I haven't seen anything that makes me interested in NMH2 yet. Preference I guess.

    @Anonymous from February 17, 2010 11:03 AM
    I do find it interesting that Ubisoft released NMH2 with little to no advertising on television. Also, I think you point out an interesting point about NMH being ported up to the Xbox360/PS3, so why won't NMH2 be ported as well? Just give it time, and if the first port sells well, I can see NMH2 being ported as well.

    @Anonymous from February 17, 2010 12:53 PM:
    I definitely agree that a game doesn't have to have multi-player. I've played the first Assassin's Creed and multiple Zelda games. I just think the lack of an online multi-player is the reason NMH2 didn't debut, and that TvC does have online multi-player is the reason it debuted already.

    @Kyle in DE:
    Yea, if the numbers are right, NMH2 should debut this next week.
    What do you think from what you've played of Muramasa?

    THANKS to everybody for the comments!

  11. I bought both games and each are fantastic!!

  12. NMH2 is for one and M rated game, and is a sequel to a game that didn't sell well in the first place. I just got it yesterday and its definately not very easy to play or understand. Added to the fact that I'm not reporting anything because I haven't connected my wii to the internets since the 3.9 update. The demographic maybe too niche for it to be tracked.

  13. @GravehunterX:
    I'm talking with a friend now about TvC, neither of us have it!

    @Owen:
    If you signed up on the Nintendo Channel, all you would have to do is log in once a week I think for your data to be reported.

    Thanks for the comments!
