What Red Steel 2 should keep from the original Red Steel: Part 3

This is Part 3, of my "What Red Steel 2 should keep from the original Red Steel".  If you missed the first two parts, you can find Part 1 and Part 2 by clicking on Part 1 and Part 2!
In Part 1, I said that I hope Red Steel 2 keeps the explosions from the original game.  In Part 2, I said I hope Red Steel 2 keeps the interactive and destructible type of environments that the original Red Steel had.

What is a third area I think Red Steel 2 should keep and improve upon from the original Red Steel?
Watch and find out:

The ability to disarm and let enemies surrender!
I really enjoyed having the choice in the original game to allow certain enemies to live or die.
I liked how you gained respect points by allowing the enemies to live.

In the video, you probably noticed the game slowing down/freezing at certain points when I had a gun in my hand.  This is called "Focus Time" in the game, and it allows you to freeze time, and target either enemies weapons or enemies in general.  In the video, I show how targeting an enemies weapon will cause the enemy to drop the weapon and surrender, if I wave them down.

The enemies in the video that I targeted had snake symbols above their heads.  When an enemy in the game has a snake symbol, that is the leader.  If you target the leader's weapon and get them to surrender, the other enemies will follow the leader's decision as can be seen in the video.

Also in the video, I showed several clips of the ends of sword fights.  At the end of each sword fight, the game lets you decide to either kill the enemy, or let the enemy live.  In the video, I chose to let them live.

I hope Red Steel 2 takes the features of disarming and letting enemies surrender and improves upon it.

Questions:
Are you planning on buying Red Steel 2 from what you know of the game now?  If not, why not?  Or are you on the middle of the fence, not sure which way you'll fall?
Is there anything that would be the tipping point for you, either towards purchasing or not purchasing the game?

Check the comments for my answer!

As always, if you're interested in any of the games, you can see what Amazon.com is selling them for right here!

To answer my own questions, I'm on the middle of the fence right now. A few things that would tip me onto the purchase side would be:
    1) Achievements that unlock game art and cheat codes
    2) Multiple difficulty settings. The higher the difficulty setting, the more objectives each level has, like Goldeneye did way back on the N64!
    3) The single-player campaign being more than 10 hours in length, each time. I don't expect the game to take me a shorter amount of time on a harder difficulty setting just because I know what to do/where to go.

  2. I'm sort of doubting this might return. The game's less about honor due to the premise. The Yakuza's a lot about honor but the Wild West is well... wild. Full of sneaky, crazy criminals.

Criminals = criminals but Yakuza =/= whatever the heck you call those Wild West criminals in Red Steel 2.

And yes I will buy the game. If there's anything that would make me want the game more it would be the European pre-order gifts for European gamestop buyers to come to North America too. Oh and somehow a multiplayer expansion sometime in the future that's actually good. That last detail probably wouldn't be announced that early though.

I think you're right. Jason Vandenberghe, the Creative Director for RS2, said the story line is a lot about revenge.

The honor/respect system wasn't fully fleshed out in the first game, but it has a lot of potential I think.

I think in RS2, they could've made it where if you allow a boss to live, the boss will teach you a move. If you kill the boss, you get money, and you can choose to upgrade weapons or pay a trainer to teach you the move.

I just hope RS2 has enough content to warrant a purchase.

    Thanks for the comment!

  5. The only problem I have at this point is that I don't have a WM+ yet, so I'll need to buy the bundle. And it's not like I don't like what the WM+ offers, but there just aren't enough games that use it importantly for me to feel like it's worth having one.

I'm in your boat...or one like it!
I don't own a WM+ at this time. This would be the first game I get that I would HAVE to have a WM+ to play it.

I bought Animal Crossing: City Folk with Wii Speak, when Amazon.com had a crazy sale on the bundle. I bought it because I was hoping to use Wii Speak with The Conduit.

Very, very few players I added to my friends list in The Conduit had Wii Speak.

I will say though, I'm very interested in Rage of the Gladiator, which is a WiiWare game that's to be released, and it uses WM+ as well.

So, right now it's sort of a win/win situation if I get RS2 with WM+, because I can use it in Rage of the Gladiator as well.

Thanks for the comment as well!

  7. I just hope that Red Steel 2 will turn out polished and good enough to be a flagship title for Wii Motion Plus. Not just the swordfighting, but also the enhancement of the pointer through the WM+ once you go off-screen with it and how much they use it and all that.

The problem I still have then though is that I don't even KNOW of any other title that's in development with WM+. The only title that comes to mind right now is Zangeki, but that might not even make it out of Japan, nor am I sure it really requires WM+ as much as Red Steel 2 does or at all really.

So as far as Red Steel 2 goes, I'm watching how it turns out and the reception is once it is released before I decide on getting it. Don't think the game will bring over anything of what you wanted though, since there's basically no ties to the first game and they aim for a completely different experience.

If there is a decently priced WM+ bundle, I might get it, but for Red Steel 2, not the WM+.

Exactly! I want a game that shows me WM+ is worth having. I didn't see it in Wii Sports Resort, or Tiger Woods Golf...though I am interested in Grand Slam Tennis and Virtua Tennis, I just don't know how much it adds to the game-play.

"The problem I still have then though is that I don't even KNOW of any other title that's in development with WM+."
The next Zelda game will use WM+. Rage of the Gladiator gives you the option to use it. Tiger Woods 11(?) will use it I'm sure, the next Rayman Raving Rabbids game will probably implement it well.

You're right though, it's slow going as with most Nintendo peripherals.

    Thanks for the comment!

  9. I'm in the middle of the fence. I never played the first one. But this 2nd one looks intriguing. I think at this point, funds are key.
