Super Metroid! How much has it been played? Official U.S. Nintendo Channel data report.

Super Metroid originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1994. The game was re-released for the Wii's Virtual Console service on August 20, 2007, and is available to download for 800 Wii Points, which is $8.

Nintendo just released Super Metroid for the Wii U's Virtual Console service, and you can currently purchase the Wii U version for only 30 cents until June 13th, and then the game should be available for $7.99. Both the Wii and Wii U versions received an ESRB rating of "EVERYONE" with "Mild Violence" listed as content for parents and gamers to be aware of.

The software description for the game on the Wii U eShop says, "The Space Pirates, merciless agents of the evil Mother Brain, have stolen the last Metroid from a research station, and once again Mother Brain threatens the safety of the galaxy! Samus Aran must don her awesome array of high-tech weaponry to retrieve the deadly Metroid hidden deep within the cave-riddled planet Zebes. Super Metroid features excellent graphics, with a huge variety of enemies and worlds to explore. The side-view action will be familiar to many players, only now there are new weapons and items, including the Grappling Beam, which allows Samus to swing across large chasms, and the X-Ray Scope, which reveals secret passages."

Last Saturday, I posted up the "Free Games Giveaway! Connect With Coffee" post. It contained details of how to enter a contest/giveaway for the PC games BIT.TRIP BEAT, Fieldrunners, SpaceChem, and Uplink. The contest/giveaway ended Thursday, and the picture above shows that I did the drawing for the winner as I have done in past contests. Empty coffee container, drop the names in it, shake it up, pull one out. The coffee container used for the drawing was a 33 oz. Maxwell House Gourmet Roast container that "MAKES UP TO 270 6 FL OZ CUPS" of coffee.

Instant "Coffee" Video Game Award!

     What is an "Instant 'Coffee' Video Game Award"? I'm glad you asked! I write many data posts and usually put many hours into each one reading about the games, looking for a trailer and/or game-play video, and often getting distracted reading about the developers and publishers of the games.
     While I do use older data reports as templates and to keep the layouts similar, every word and number in each data post is typed out and not copied and pasted from older data posts.


     So, back to this "Instant 'Coffee' Video Game Award". According to Dictionary.com, instant coffee is, "dehydrated coffee that can be made into a drink by adding hot water; 'the advantages of instant coffee are speed of preparation and long shelf life.'" While instant coffee isn't part of this instant giveaway, it might be in future giveaways.

     What about the "Video Game Award" part of the title? It simply means this award is video game related.
     Being that some have defaulted to referring to me as "Coffee" or "Mr. Coffee", that's where the "Coffee" part comes from in the title with quotes around it.
     I have done a few contests and giveaways over the last few years and the winners have usually been selected by dropping the entry names into a coffee container, shaking it up, and then drawing the winner out. With an "Instant 'Coffee' Video Game Award" though, the award is instantly awarded to the first person that responds either knowingly/unknowingly, with no coffee container drawing necessary.

Charity, Contest, & CoffeeWithGames - Notes

     Okay, so here are some notes about things happening.

     1)  First, Knuckles Sonic8, who comments here on CWG some, also runs his own video game related site, WiiLoveIt.com.
     Today, Saturday, WiiLoveIt.com is partcipating in an Extra Life charity event, which is a cause setup to raise money for children via donations, in which the participants play video games for 24 straight hours...or at least 24 hours total for the event.

The Winner of 2 Years' Worth of Coffee Is...

     Last month, I posted up a contest/giveaway for 2 years' worth of coffee, and that contest/giveaway is now over!  To enter the contest, the entrants had to write a poem about coffee, with at least one video game reference in it.
     If you have entered any of my contests/giveaways in the past, you know how I usually randomly select the winner; but for those of you that don't know how I select the winner, the images below explain it(you may remember the first two images):

Mrs. Coffee's Poem - Kirby's Epic Ode to Joe (Contest/Giveaway Deadline Reminder!)

     So, last month the site turned two, and to celebrate I decided to do a contest/giveaway of two years' worth of coffee.  The deadline to enter the contest is tomorrow night:  Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 11:59PM EST.  You can read the simple rules and enter the contest/giveaway HERE!

     If you are wondering what you have to do to enter, all that is required is to write a poem about coffee and at least one video game reference in the comment section of THAT post.

     My wife, Mrs. Coffee, wrote a poem as an example/inspiration for the contest/giveaway.  So, again, if you have not entered the contest/giveaway to win two years' worth of coffee, do so now HERE!  If you haven't entered yet, but are needing some inspiration, perhaps Mrs. Coffee's poem can help.

I like my dark roast nice and warm

CoffeeWithGames Turns Two, Win Two Years' Worth of Coffee!

     On August 29, 2009, I posted my first blog article, "Analyzing the Wii Manufacturing Costs in 2009".  So today, August 29, 2011, marks the site's two year birthday of sorts.
     What's a birthday without a gift though?  Probably just another day of the week!  So, to help celebrate CoffeeWithGames.com's two year birthday(originally CoffeeWithGames.Blogspot.com), I'm giving away 2 year's worth of coffee.
     Now some of you might be thinking, "How much is 2 year's worth of coffee, Coffee?"  Well, I'm glad you asked!

5 Years Ago, This Day...and GIVEAWAY!

     Before we knew it as the Wii, we knew it as the Revolution.  In March of 2006, there were rumblings of a FPS being developed for Nintendo's next console.  Screenshots were even leaked/scanned from magazines, and it was said that Ubisoft was developing it.
     Well, on April 11, 2006, 5 years this day(Tuesday), not today, Ubisoft officially made the announcement, with a press release, that they were developing Red Steel for the Revolution.

     A portion of the press release said, "Today Ubisoft...announced the development of Red Steel, an exclusive first-person action title for the Nintendo Revolution(working name of the new Nintendo platform).  Red Steel is set in modern-day Japan.  Players will master both the ancient art of the katana and the sophisticated technology of modern firearms taking advantage of the emotion and immersive gameplay possible only with the Revolution's remarkable controller."

Filtered Thoughts:
     Red Steel seems to be one of those games with a very love/hate type of relationship with gamers.  I rented the game first, because of the wide range of review scores.  I found that even with some control issues, the game was fun and I enjoyed it enough to play through it at least twice.  I would say at its current prices, used or new, the game is worth a try...or at the least, a rental.

Does that "Drinks" machine have any coffee!

     So, to put money where my mouth is, I'm giving away a copy of Red Steel for the Wii.

Contest/Giveaway Winner!

     Last Wednesday, I posted about a Coffee with Games contest/give-away.  The time for the contest/give-away has expired, and now it's time to announce the winner!

How I Chose the Winner:
1)  I kept an empty Maxwell House Dark Roast 270 cup coffee container.

2)  I dropped the entries into the coffee container, then snapped the lid on.

3)  I gave it a good shaking...then, I opened the lid and drew the name...

     I'll try to keep this as simple as I can.  The contest/giveaway is open to readers in the 50 United States of America(sorry European and world-wide readers...you'll see why, I hope).
     You may have read my "December Brewed, January Roasting - Happy New Year" post, in which I talked about how busy December was for me, and us as a family.  It was so busy, that I forgot to have this contest!
     Well, being that we are now in a new year, I was thinking that perhaps a calendar could possibly benefit one of you.  Not just any calendar though, I was thinking this calendar:

Last Wednesday, I started the very first Coffee with Games contest/give-away.

The contest is now closed, and it's time to announce the winner!

How I chose the winner:

1) I kept an empty Folgers French Roast 240 cup coffee container.

2) I dropped the names of those that entered the contest, into the coffee container.

I put the lid on it, then shook the coffee container around, then opened the lid and pulled out the winner, Ben Picone!

A huge thanks to everybody that entered!  This was my first contest on the blog, but it's not the last one I have planned.

I did ask Ben what games he plans to use Wii Speak with, but I haven't received a reply, as of the time of this posting.
