Terrific TUESDAY! Dragon Slaying & Tactical Shooting = Gamers Win!

Coffee Beans
Today, gamers in the U.S. see two big game releases, those being Dragon's Dogma and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
Dragon's Dogma was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 today, with a MSRP of $59.99. It was developed and published by Capcom, and received an ESRB rating of "Mature" with "Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, Suggestive Themes, Violence" listed as content for gamers and parents to be aware of. You can read its full ESRB rating description HERE.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier's development was led by Ubisoft Paris, with that studio focusing on the game's solo and co-operative campaigns. Ubisoft Red Storm focused on the game's adversarial multiplayer mode, while Ubisoft Romania provided a lot of development support throughout the development time. The game was of course published by Ubisoft, and received an ESRB rating of "Mature" with "Blood, Intense Violence, Strong Language" listed as content for gamers and parents to be aware of. You can read its full ESRB rating description HERE.

If you are perhaps thinking, "Coffee, I'm not sure which one of these games would interest me.", well I have provided trailers for both games below the break. Take a look!

The Brew
First up, Dragon's Dogma (because it's first alphabetically!):

Second, a trailer for Future Soldier's multiplayer:

Caffeinated Thoughts
I have not purchased either one of these games, though both look like they could be a lot of fun. I have only read small snippets on both, as I try to not get too many impressions/opinions on games before I play them, but they both appear to be very well developed games.
With my time in Monster Hunter Tri, Dragon's Dogma does have some appeal to me, considering it was also developed and published by Capcom, like MHT.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, yes the original, was a Christmas gift to me many years ago from my brother, and I thoroughly enjoyed the game back then, and I still have it in my small collection of PC games. Being that I enjoy the shooter genre a good deal, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has me more interested out of the two new releases today.

Questions
Are any of you purchasing Dragon's Dogma and/or Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier today? If so, which one(s) are you getting? If you have already had the chance to play them, what do you think of what you have played?

If you are interested in purchased Dragon's Dogma and/or Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, you can see a few product links for them below:

  1. Having played the demo, Dragon's Dogma doesn't do it for me. It's like Capcom saw the popularity of Dark Souls and felt the need to take a crack at the style themselves, but up the action and lower the difficulty.

  2. Interesting. I did see Dragon's Dogma listed in several genres, with hack n slash being one of them. So, that makes a lot of sense with the "up the action" part. REALLY, really strange about the difficulty though, as MHT definitely was challenging.

    Thanks for the feedback!

As for Ghost Recon Future Soldier, is DD planning on reviewing it once it releases on the PC next month?

  3. Dragon's Dogma looks interesting enough, but I wouldn't buy it without trying it. As for the war game, been there, done that.

Also, I don't know why Blogger isn't letting me follow your blog.

  4. "Also, I don't know why Blogger isn't letting me follow your blog."
Under the "Join this site" option? Or on the dashboard?

*goes to backup blog before Blogger crashes into the abyss and never returns (like what almost happened last year)

  5. Dragon's Dogma is probably still going to be fairly difficult, but really, no game has a hope in heaven in being as difficult as Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. Those two games make MHT look like a cakewalk. (and I'm really not exaggerating there, the Souls games are absolutely, wonderfully brutal).

We're going to try and do a Ghost Recon review for sure. It won't be me though - not my kind of game.

  6. I have heard the Dark Souls and Demon's Souls games are difficult...just as you described them. Had a friend tell me about Dark Souls first I think, then Demon's Souls (2nd one, maybe reverse), and how he played the 2nd one just to see how hard it was after the first.

As for Ghost Recon, at least you know it's not your type...you can usually tell when a game doesn't fit a reviewer, and a reviewer doesn't fit a game.

  7. I'm interested-ish in Ghost Recon, but much more interested in Dragon's Dogma. And yeah, I've heard it can be tough, but probably still is nothing compared to the swearing-inducing "Souls" games. :P

  8. Being that you and Matt both mentioned the "Souls" games so much, perhaps I need to add one to my "wish list"?

  9. I really like them, but at the same time, they can be pretty tough and a bit frustrating. Demon's Souls is a bit of a bummer now - their online server support ends in like a week. Matt never cared for the online part of it, where as I thought it added a lot to the feel of the game. Dark Souls however is pretty cheap - I've seen it for as little as $15 used on amazon, and their server is still running strong, so if you do find it frustrating, you're not out much cash at least.
