October Brewed! Coffees Consumed, Games Played

Coffee Beans
I turned a year older early in October, and you can read about some gifts Mrs. Coffee got for me HERE.  I have been working more hours each week than I would like, especially with school and full-time family duties each day, but I am grateful for a job; especially one where I can grab a cup of coffee each day on my way home.  Speaking of coffee, if you missed my review post, "Surviving 48+ Hours Without Coffee?  Ed Hardy Energy Snacks Review", you can read that to see how I went for just over 48 hours without any coffee, and I didn't get a caffeine headache!
Now with November brewing, what coffees and caffeinated products did I consume and what games did I play in October?  Let's take a look!

Coffee and Caffeinated Products Consumed in October
Trader Joe's Joe's Dark Coffee Roast - This was coffee sent to me by Charlie from NicodemusAtNite.com.  I still have some left, so I'll probably be enjoying more of it in the coming days.
Maxwell House Master Blend - We finished this about halfway into October, and enjoyed it while it lasted.
New England Coffee Colombian Supremo Blend - Another one we finished off in October, but it had been hiding around our closest for several months, behind other coffees before I discovered it late in September.
Chick-Fil-A Coffee - Chick-Fil-A only has one blend of caffeinated coffee, and I have gotten into the habit of getting myself a cup as I'm clocking out, and bringing it home with me.  When I do this, I don't have to worry with rushing home to and starting a pot of coffee when I walk in, as I can just drink the cup I have brought with me.
Folgers Black Silk - This was one of my coffee birthday gifts, and there is still just a little left of it.  I enjoy it, and think it has a nice strong flavor, but Mrs. Coffee does not like it because of its strong flavor.
Chock full o' Nutes Original Blend - This was another birthday gift, and suprisingly I opened it after I opened the Folgers Black Silk blend, but we finished this blend first.  What was the reason we finished this one first?  Well, Mrs. Coffee actually liked this blend, and it was the one I started brewing for her before she left for work.  So, I'm glad to have tried a new blend, and we enjoyed it while it lasted and I would say it was more of a mild flavored blend.
Ed Hardy Energy Snacks - If you missed my review of the Ed Hardy Energy Snacks, make sure to read that HERE.  I consumed Chocolate Rocks, Coffee Rocks, King Dog Energy Mints, Orange Energy Sticks, and Pomegranate Energy Sticks; all of which are caffeinated and helped keep me going, and totally replaced my coffee consumption one entire weekend.

Games Played in October
Battlefield 3 Beta - Keith, of RespawnAction.com, and I played the Battlefield 3 Beta on the PlayStation 3 a good bit early in October.  He purchased the game last week, and will probably be reviewing the game soon...though he has mentioned it seems to be having some online server issues right now.
PAYDAY: The Heist - This is another game I played with Keith, and you can read his review for it HERE.  It was released on the PlayStation Network in October, and is a first-person shooter.  I enjoyed the few nights I was able to play it, and thought it was an interesting take on the first-person shooter genre with some neat game-play ideas implemented into it(taking hostages that let you "negotiate" if a team member is captured), and that it played really well.  I still remember laughing at one of the trophies I got in the game.  It was titled "Cheney", and I'll have to see if I was recording footage that night and post it up.
Tenchu: Shadow Assassins - This game has been on my backlog for a while now, and I am slowly and stealthily working my way through it.  I have been enjoying my time with the game, and I like how they pieced together quick-time events for taking out enemies.  Hopefully I can have this one finished here very soon!
Chess - You read that right, chess.  I had not played a game of chess in close to 2.5 years before I played a few in October.  I really enjoyed the matches, as I did when I used to play on a more regular basis, which means I may have started a new "regular" with chess again.

Filtered Thoughts
While I only played three video games during October, I did enjoy my time with the ones I played.  The chess matches I enjoyed a great deal as I mentioned above, and as for including chess in my list, I'll probably include any board and card games in the future that I play during a month.
I consumed six liquid coffee blends, one "coffee" candy being the Ed Hardy Coffee Rocks, and another four caffeinated Ed Hardy Energy Snacks.

Questions
What coffees and caffeinated products did you consume during October, and what games did you find yourself playing?
Also, do any of you play chess by any chance?

As always, if any of you own a Wii or PS3, you can find my PSN and Wii friend codes HERE.

  1. Completely random question (well, not so much random, since you mentioned it in your piece, but it's not a video game question) - is the Ed Hardy you mentioned the same clothing/ fashion label that came to Australia and then crashed and burned spectacularly?

More on topic - do you have Chess on the WiiWare? We should play some games if you do :)

  2. @GamesAndBiz:
I only know of the one Ed Hardy clothing/fashion label, so it could be the same one.

As for Chess on WiiWare, I DON'T have it unfortunately, but I was playing on Pogo.com in October.

  3. Good morning. :)

So what were your initial thoughts of Battlefield 3? My son liked it, but not as much as Black Ops. He downloaded the demo to our PS3 though and did play it a bit.

Tenchu - what system are you playing that on? I played the original Tenchu on... lordy, PS1 or 2 I think? I really liked it, but haven't played any of the follow-ups.

Chess: My dad raised me on it. I suck at it, or at least, years of my dad kicking my ass at it has led me to believe I suck at it. Always enjoyed it though, and my two older kids both play it with me once in awhile.

    My month in coffee:

Just Bigby coffees again - usually Michigan Cherry, Bigby's Best or French Roast.

    My games:

PSP - a little bit of Lunar, but that was it
Wii - played some Mario Kart with a friend
360 - Risen, Double Dragon, Gears of War 3 (which I beat with my son in co-op)
PC - Neverwinter Nights 2, Gyromancer, King's Bounty - Crossworlds
PS3 - Various minis I got free from PS+, Record of Agarest War, Madden 12 and brief bouts of Dark Souls and Arkham City when a friend came over last weekend.

  4. My typical coffees this month were Trader Joe's (TJ) Espresso blend, TJ Cafe Pajaro, TJ Wake up blend and Starbucks Breakfast blend.

Games I've played this month have actually been besides Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition for PS3 have been:

    ICO HD
    Shadow of Colossus HD
Batman: Arkham City (Borrowed from a co worker)

My son and I were at home by ourselves sitting on the couch and I fired up the Wii and "we" played Starfox 64. I let him hold an unconnected old classic controller as I played on the new classic controller. It was fun and he was watching all the wonderful polygons. I can't get past the level where you fight the Bizarro Starfox team.

I also played like 5 minutes of Cave Story but put it down because I wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing or where to go. I may just start over.

As for chess, I haven't played in about 2 years either. I probably played you the most Coffee via Facebook. I'd like to get back into it. There's chess.com and an app on FB as well. If anyone wants to play, I'm all for it. I need to get better at it.

  5. Melitta as usual, though instead of just the classic I've thrown the columbian and European blends into the mix. Wild times.. :) These two blends are pretty good and typically darker/stronger than the classic with the European having the most flavour.

    Games:

Been a pretty wild and tiring month with moving. With getting a 3DS on 10/5, I've spent some gaming time playing around with the settings, watching videos and game previews.

    3DS:
    - AR Games
    - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
    - The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition

I haven't purchased any VC games and am currently reviewing them in more detail to balance that out against other titles like Super Mario 3D land, Mario Kart 7 and VVVVVV.

    Wii:
    - Metroid Other M
    - Liight

    PC/Steam:
    - Plants vs Zombies
    - Angry Birds

    Android:
    - Cut the rope

I suspect things are going to get even more wild with baby #2 later this month. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get SM3DLand, VVVVVV, continue with the two Zelda titles and see if any of the classic VC games look good. But we'll see. Serious lack of sleep and probably only having time at night may be an issue. I may have to try to game more at lunch during work.

@Chalgyr: Not sure how much time you played, but that looks like a "light" month for you just in the sheer number of games you usually post. :)

  6. @Robert - amusingly, I got more game time in than every when kids #2 & #3 came along. Almost no sleep, but lots of game time. :P

Very light month in the number of games. The games I've been playing tend to be involved ones that will take quite awhile to beat though. Agarest, King's Bounty and Neverwinter will probably take 70+ hrs each. :P

Plus, I've been putting some time back into my RPG Maker project. That's pretty much all I did last Fri-Monday. :) Gears 3 was a lot of fun with my son - though that one was a pretty quick playthrough. i'd guess around 10 hrs or so?

  7. @Chalgyr:
I thought the Battlefield 3 Beta ran well, and that the mode they offered showed great potential.

As for Tenchu, I'm playing it on the Wii. It's part of my backlog I need to finish.

As for your coffees, do you drink them black or with cream/sugar? And Dark Souls will never be finished from what I hear...EVER.

    @Charlie:
    "Batman: Arkham City"???
Did you play the first one? I can't/don't remember you mentioning it.

As for the disconnected controller trick...it doesn't last long. Our oldest KNOWS when it's not the real one, and will let me know very quickly he wants my controller instead.

"As for chess, I haven't played in about 2 years either. I probably played you the most Coffee via Facebook."
Yea, the last I played was on FB with you I think before our oldest son was born...it had been a while!

    @Robert:
Mixing up the coffee blends! BTW, where do you buy your Melitta coffee?

The PC/Steam games of Plants vs Zombies and Angry Birds surprised me. Are those actually the Steam versions? I'm just so used to hearing about those games on the phones, and not the PC I guess.

Thank you all for the comments/feedback so far!

  8. @Chalgyr: :D Thought it may have been like that and had to give you some grief. Your monthly round-up lists are usually pretty long!

    @Coffee:

Was getting it from Publix and I think the latest cans were from Sams club. I'm not sure if Target has them and I'll have to look around at some regional supermarkets we have now.

Are those actually the Steam versions?

PvZ is actually the GOTY Steam Edition, but Angry Birds was a web thing from the chrome store.

  9. @coffee - depends. If I make it at home and it's just a general breakfast blend, I usually add a bit of flavored creamer, but when I get it from Bigby I just drink it black on the drive in.

I'll be curious what you think of Tenchu. I know a lot of reviewers don't like the series, but I really enjoyed the original one.

@Robert - lol, yeah. I suspect this month's will be more of the same. Agarest War in particular is chewing up a ton of time, but I'm trying to get the ultimate ending stuff I never did when I first played/reviewed it.
