May the Fourth be with You!

As I stated in "Our Son's Nintendo Themed Birthday" post, I'm a huge Star Wars fan.
Back in the 90s, I received my Nintendo 64 as a Christmas present.  My mom didn't buy me any games for it, because she didn't want to purchase a game that I may not like.
I rented a few games, before deciding to purchase Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire as my first Nintendo 64 game.

A few years later, I was line at my local Wal-Mart with some friends, so I could purchase the GameCube the day it released.
The first game I purchased with my GameCube that night, was Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader.
Then in 2004, I purchased a Xbox, and the first game I purchased with it was Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I have owned and played several other Star Wars titles throughout the years, such as Star Wars Demolition, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Republic Commando, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, and Star Wars Galaxies.
Today May 4, 2010.  Each year, May 4 is the "unofficial" Star Wars day, due to somebody being clever one year and coining the term, "May the fourth be with you."(I wonder if that person was a coffee drinker?!)

Do Wii owners like playing Star Wars games?  Have Wii Star Wars games been received well by "reviewers"?
Let's take a look at some data!

Approx. Number of Players Reporting Data:
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga has 398,219 players reporting data on the Wii's Nintendo Channel.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has 281,591 players reporting their play-time data.
Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels has 129,495 players reporting data.
Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes has 18,569 players reporting play-time data.

"Total" Game-Play Hours Combined:
According to the Wii's Nintendo Channel data, when I combined the "Total Hours" reported for Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels, and Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, the grand total is:
23,484,173 Total Hours!
If you wanted to fly in space with those hours, you could make about 154,800 round trips to the moon.(if my math was right)

Thoughts/Questions:
Do you enjoy the Star Wars universe?  Whether it's the movies, books, television shows, or video games?
Do you have a favorite Star Wars movie and video game?

I like Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, as my favorites(today, it may change tomorrow).
As for video games, I've enjoyed all the Star Wars video games that I have played, at least from what I remember of them.
Though, there are two Star Wars games I've enjoyed more than I thought I would.
I really enjoy the FPS genre, and I was really surprised by Star Wars Republic Commando.
I enjoyed the squad-based game-play, and I really enjoyed its online multi-player.
Out of the four Wii Star Wars games shown, I own Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.  I really did enjoy the game, and played through it four complete times.  I also tried the multi-player one weekend, when a friend came in town.
I do hope that Nintendo owners get Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II in some fashion.

Thanks for reading!  May the 4th be with you!

  1. Dark Helmet will kick Vader's behind. And Barf is greater than any wookie.

(I certainly hope someone gets the reference)

  2. Keith - That's Space Balls right?

Anyways, my favorite Star Wars movie is Return of the Jedi. I think it's so awesome that Luke is no longer afraid of Vader and is so calm when meeting with him again.

As for games, my favorite definitely is between KOTOR or Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.

I'm going to do my best to maybe stay away from the new MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.

  3. I'm not really a fan of the movies, but I love the universe. My favorite games would be Dark Forces 1 and 2 (Jedi Knight). I kinda like Shadows of the Empire (PC version). I played Rogue Squadron quite a bit, but it never really clicked. I own Lego Star Wars but I only played it for 30 minutes so far.

    @Nicodemus at Nite:
I do enjoy Return of the Jedi, especially with Palpatine...I think it's crazy the guy is the same actor in all the movies!

"I'm going to do my best to maybe stay away from the new MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic."
    You and I both!

My best friend growing up, played the Dark Forces game, and I remember watching him play one of them on his PC...I don't remember which one though.

*takes another sip of my coffee, and passes mouse over the "delete" button on the comment!

    @SuperPhillip:
I enjoyed Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the Xbox, I thought the story line was really well done, in showing the players how the Clone Troopers were used.

Does anybody plan on buying Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 this October?
