How Many Hours Played? Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I's One Year Report

Coffee Beans
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I was release on October 11, 2010 with a price point of 1,500 Wii Points, which is $15.  The game was co-developed by Dimps and Sonic Team, and it received an ESRB rating of "Everyone" with "Comic Mischief" listed as content for gamers/parents to be aware of.

How many hours have Wii owners reported playing Sonic's WiiWare adventure with 371 days of data possibly reported?  Let's take a look!

What are your "Total" hours reported?
The Brew
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I now has about 22,722 Wii owners that have reported game-play data through the Wii's Nintendo Channel, compared to 7,983 Wii owners when the data debuted in November 2010.
The game's average play-time per day/session reported is now 51 Minutes, a 20 minute decrease over its debut average of 1 Hour 11 Minutes per day/session reported.
The United States' WiiWare release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I has made Sega about $340,830 over the last year, before taxes and profit sharing with Nintendo, based on the number of players having reported data and the game's $15 price point.

Filtered Thoughts
I still have not played Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I, but I think the reported game-play data shows the game has replay value, and that Wii owners are continuing to play it.
The game's average hours "Per person" have increased by almost 2 hours, while the "Times" played have almost doubled, since November of last year.

  1. A title I've thought about purchasing several times - my younger two are both huge Sonic fans. Just never got around to it...

  2. Yeah, I put over 20 hours into this, I believe.
Most of that was going for respectable Time Attack runs, but the game can be short (as -any- platformer based Sonic) if all you wanna do is see the credits roll. Even on that basis, $15 is cheap for a basically full 2D Sonic title.

I haven't played any Sonic for awhile, so I'm looking forward to Sonic Generations 3DS. I have a feeling that it might be the first 3DS title I pay $30+ for, if it doesn't have a sale around it's release.

  3. I'd have to check that time again, but I didn't get much out of unlocking Super Sonic, personally. It's just several levels more open-ended as far as uncovering faster paths; you have to choose if you wanna take a route that lets you collect 50 rings faster, you have to choose when to activate it (a process that takes about 4 seconds of precious time), and there's a lot of air travel without being able to get a sense of where you are from the grounds layout. It's extraordinary to think that the youtube videos of fast runs with Super Sonic were done genuinely (without computer assistance), if that's the case.

  4. @Chalgyr:
I just wonder how many episodes are going to make this up, or if Sega will just keep releasing them as they see fit.

    @WesFX:
Interesting about the Super Sonic, as I hadn't heard about it.
As for Sonic Generations 3DS...and your 3DS, how are you enjoying it so far?

Thank you both for the comments/feedback1
