July Brewed - Coffees Consumed, Games Played, & Site Notes

Coffee Beans
     July was crazy busy, as I thought it would be.  If you missed the post, Mrs. Coffee and I were blessed with a new son on July 4, and then Mrs. Coffee and I had our wedding anniversary a few days later.
     July has 31 days in it, and we had family visiting us for 15 of those days, and were out of the house for 2 of those days with the new guy being born.

     So, with a new baby, wedding anniversary, family visiting, and normal work, I'm surprised I played as many games as I did and kind of surprised I didn't consume more coffee toward the end of the month.
     What games did I play in July, and what coffees did I consume?  Let's take a look!

Coffees Consumed in July

     Folgers House Blend (Medium Roast) - This was either a 240, or 270, coffee cup container purchased in June, but we finished it off early in July.
     Seattle's Best Coffee Organic House Blend - I enjoyed a few pots of this throughout July, and still have some left as of August starting up.
     Folgers Custom Roast - Another big 270 cup coffee container Mrs. Coffee purchased for us, and it even came with a little "bonus" pack of coffee.
     Community Coffee Medium Roast - This coffee was brought up from Louisiana when Mrs. Coffee's mom came to visit us in July, as it has been in the past.
     Random Coffee - When we were in the hospital, they had an instant coffee machine like a Keurig, and I tried several of the packets.

Games Played in July

     GoldenEye 007 Wii - I was able to squeeze in a few online multi-player matches at the very beginning of July, but basically none after the beginning.
     Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream Virtual Console - I still enjoy picking up the Wii Remote and going after Glass Joe and the other boxers in Punch-Out!!, but I still can't remember beating this game because of how difficult the final match is!  I can reach Mr. Dream, and land a few punches, but my reflexes soon fail me and Little Mac is boxing the same guys again
     Monster Hunter Tri - Monster Hunter Tri was one of the games on my "New Year's Resolution" video game lists to complete, and I had been trying on a more regular basis since April this year to beat the game's single-player campaign.  I finally finished the single-player campaign on July 13 and saw the credits roll.  Will I pick it back up again now that I've finished the main campaign, more than likely, because there are still more monsters I need to hunt online!
     Mario Kart Wii - This was the game I purchased for Mrs. Coffee for Christmas this past year, and while she played a few races on Christmas day, the game remained untouched for months after that.  We finally broke it out this month and played the game together, and I also played some of it by myself with my own file.  One of the first things I noticed was a coffee connection in the game, as well as something else that I don't recall from past Mario Kart games, but more on both of these later!
     Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - This game was not part of my "New Year's Video Game Resolution", and part of my resolution was to not "purchase any NEW or USED video game(s)" before completing my older games.  So, did I break resolution with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune?  No, I didn't break it, and I've got another post on it inbound, but it has to do with Keith, and RespawnAction.com!
     Kirby's Epic Yarn - Another game not on my list, but yet I'm playing it!?  Well, Mrs. Coffee and I did a game exchange of sorts with our neighbors.  They loaned us Kirby's Epic Yarn(and Wii Sports Resort), and we loaned them Donkey Kong Country Returns.  Mrs. Coffee and I have been playing through Kirby's Epic Yarn together, and we are a little more than 20% through with the game right now.
     Rage of the Gladiator - I was contacted through my YouTube account about recording/uploading two more battles from Rage of the Gladiator, so I started playing one of the bosses again to practice so I can get a video up on it...hopefully the videos will be happening soon.
     Fish'em All - I played the demo for this WiiWare game a few months back, and ironically the same week I saw the developer of the game giving away free copies of the game.  I signed up for a copy, and the developer sent one over to me.  I attempted to beat a level I have been on for a while, but was not successful. I really need to record some footage of this game, so you can see what type of game-play it has.
     Greg Hastings Paintball 2 PS3 - I played just a little bit more of the single-player career mode in the PS3 version, though it is exactly the same as the Wii's single-player career mode.

Site Notes
     1)  Reader Points!  Some of you may remember when I posted about the "Reader Points" a few months back, and as of now I have it updated through April of this year.  May's Reader Points totals should be up by the end of this week, and news regarding those soon after.  So, if you have been wondering about the "Reader Points", an update should be happening later this week, or early next week.
     2)  Coffee posts?  While I do lots of video game related posts, I don't do many coffee related posts.  Beginning this week, I am starting to do more coffee related posts.  The posts will be simple(and hopefully enjoyable), and they will be random, but I'm hoping to do at least two coffee related posts a month.
     3)  Gaming Nights!  While my schedule is a lot more hectic now, I am going to try and do two "gaming nights" a month, where I post up a game I'll be playing online, and hopefully some of you can join me.  If any of you want to know what games I have that are online, you can check my "Contact Me" page, that has most of my online multi-player games listed.  If you see a game that you own, and would like to nominate it for an online "Gaming Night", feel free to leave it in the comments.

Questions
     Did any of you try any coffee beverages in July, and if so, would you recommend any of them to us?
     Also, what games did you all find yourselves playing in July?

15 comments:

  1. More Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition for the PS3.

    World of Warcrack.

    And Final Fantasy I on the iPhone.

    Coffees I've drank have been Trader Joe's espresso blend and his Wake up Blend.

    We went on vacation from July 25-29 to Rodanthe NC and it was hectic. We basically took everything we do here in MD with the kids and moved that 300 miles south in a trailer home.

    I saw Captain America and I recommend that you all do the same. Hugo Weaving makes the movie.

  2. @Coffee - surprised you didn't go through more coffee this month all things considered. Not a bad gaming list at all. It was odd but I found lots of game time when my son was born - he kept me up late most nights. You had a few games on that list that I have been playing - I touched on Monster Hunter about a week ago, I beat Uncharted somewhat recently and played Mario Kart Wii w/ some friends recently as well.

    @Charlie - I was *this* close to picking up Super Street Fighter 4, but haven't yet. Captain America was a lot of fun, I concur.

    As for myself - steered clear of coffee *covers Coffee's ears/eyes when he types that*

    Games... big list it seems like, with a few completions in there. Off of the top of my head:

    - Marvel Pinball
    - FX Pinball
    - Deathspank
    - Magic Orbz
    - Magic: The Gathering 2012 (completed all modes)
    - Halo: Reach (just beat the campaign last night)
    - Black Ops
    - Civilization V
    - Neverwinter Nights 2
    - Scarcraft 2 (beat the main story mode)
    - Smackdown vs Raw 2010
    - Record of Agarest War Zero
    - Peggle
    - Lunar Harmony for my PSP

    I think that's about it right off-hand. Seems like there were others as well, but it's early and I am coffee-less.

  4. These are the Wii games I have that you have that are online.Animal Crossing:City Folk, Excitebots:Trick Racing, and finally Monster hunter Tri. I haven't played Animal Crossing in a while so my town is likely full of weeds. Excitebots I guess I am pretty good but there is others that are better then me. You have my Tri info so we can play that if you like. I'm kinda busy with Monster hunter Tri. I recently joined a monster hunter forum and we have game nights on Thursdays and Tuesdays. The Tuesday day may change in the coming weeks so I will keep you updated. Every other day will work for me for a game night.

  5. @Little gamer - awesome on the new Win 7 machine. I couldn't believe what a difference that made for me last Christmas when my wife got me a nice shiny new one. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of you posting soon!

  6. July seemed like a short month. I watched the entire Avatar: The Last Airbender series as I always do this time of the year. I started playing Gran Turismo 5 a little more regularly. I've been meaning to buy the new Mortal Kombat but every time I happen to go into a store to check if they have it, there's not even space on the shelves for it. I'll probably get it in the next two months.

    Finally, still playing COD4 at work during lunch time. Sadly, my internship is ending in three weeks, I will definitely miss those times.

  7. Sorry for showing up late to the party on this one guys. Had to attend a conference for work that yanked me out of my life for about 2 1/2 weeks. But it was good and I did get some gaming in. It at least gave me a chance to mobilize and dust off the good old Gameboy Color. :)

    Coffees Consumed:
    Eight O' Clock: Hazelnut, Original Blend, Mocha
    Ian's Tea Shoppe and 2nd Street Coffee: Nuts and Berries

    Games Played:
    Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening - GBC
    Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - GC
    Bioshock - PS3

    @Coffee:
    Looking forward to your post on Uncharted. I've heard great things about it and is on my radar, so I'll be eager to hear what you have to say about it.

    @Charlie:
    I've been wanting to play the latest-and-greatest FFI for a long time now, but never considered it as worth buying a PSP for. Any good on the iphone?

    @Chalgyr:
    Impressive list as always. :)

    I'm with the rest of you: July seemed to shorten itself this year.

  8. Games played in July:

    - Mario Kart Wii (Wii, bought brand new in July)
    - Sonic Colors (Wii, bought second hand in July)
    - New Super Mario Bros. (DS, only up to World 5-4)
    - Scribblenauts (DS, revisiting the game that I haven't played for ages)
    - Super Mario Bros. (Wii VC, downloaded in July
    - Excitebike (Wii VC, downloaded in July)

    A slightly long list for me

    @My Little Gamer - I myself upgraded to Windows 7, it is the best Windows OS IMHO

  9. @Charlie Chang:
    Ahh, the World of Warcrack...when I start my "Warcracks Anonymous" program, I'll be RICH!

    As for you being in NC, wasn't that in Outer Banks area?

    @Chalgyr:
    "I touched on Monster Hunter about a week ago..."
    Ahh, giving it another try? As you may know from my posting on it, it was a slow burn for me.

    "As for myself - steered clear of coffee"
    How do you people survive!?

    I noticed Black Ops on your list, are you still playing it on the PS3 and is that online multi-player? I thought about playing it tonight, but finished up the Cursed Mountain post.

    @My Little Gamer:
    Thanks for the congrats sir! As for Windows 7, I've been using it for the last year and a half on my computer, and I enjoy it...especially the screen capture and easy split-screening when blogging.

    @Maxi:
    Being that you're playing Monster Hunter on a regular basis, that may end up being one "gaming night", and perhaps Excitebots for another, because I know My Little Gamer has Excitebots as well.

    @Jonath:
    Ah, is the internship something college/school related that will possibly turn into a real job for you? If so, that's pretty cool, and if not at least it sounds like it was a pretty cool internship.

    @Tim:
    I was at Wal-Mart about 2 weeks ago and saw the Eight O'Clock coffee, and thought, "Somebody drinks that regularly..."

    Interesting seeing Twilight Princess on the GameCube listed. Is this your first time playing Twilight Princess, and are you playing it on a GameCube, or just the GameCube version on the Wii?

    Also, I've heard a lot of good about Bioshock, but haven't played it, or the sequel. I thought the trailer for Bioshock Infinite at E3 looked really interesting.

    @The Strikester:
    Was this your first Wii console to purchase, or did another one you had stop working...I can't remember.

    As for Mario Kart Wii, I plan to keep playing it, though neither Mrs. Coffee or I were really sucked in by the game-play in July.
    Super Mario Bros. has been getting some steady play-time recently, as I find it easy to pickup and play for 10-20 minutes at a time.
    I own New Super Mario Bros. DS, but haven't played it in probably 1.5-2 years now.

    Thank you all for the comments/feedback so far! If anybody else has certain nights of the week/month that would work best for a "Gaming Night", feel free to add a comment with those.

  10. @coffee

    - Monster Hunter: Yeah, it's just one of those games that strikes me as a major investment to beat the storyline, so I just sort of poke at it on the side every now and then so I'm making progress, but it's just never been a 'focal point' for me, like say... my beating of the God of War games over the last 2 weeks.

    - Mt. Dew. :) In the summer, it's just too warm for coffee for me, hehe.

    - Black Ops: Every once in awhile I hop online still. I have some friends who play, so if one asks me to hop in for a bit I do. It's definitely not a game of focus for me anymore, but I do enjoy it every now and then. Interestingly enough, my son is still playing Black Ops a ton - mostly the Zombie Modes.

  11. Sounds good Coffee. Also wanted to let you know that on Monday and Thursdays are the days where I usually hunt with another forum. Any other day will work for a game night. Also today the Tri servers are down so I don't know when they will be back up. I'll let you know if the situation changes.

  12. @cofee: Luckily this was my first and only Wii purchased back in 09. I only just bought Mario Kart Wii as it was quite expensive back then (Still $80 AUD)

  13. I'm pretty late this time. Been meaning to reply, but it's been a busy month and I'm out of town for most of it.

    For drinks it was melitta classic and green tea as usual along with some 8 o'clock original. I still prefer melitta, but 8 o'clock was on sale for half and that's a mightly good flavor too. :)

    @Coffee:
    That's quite an impressive list of games there especially with a new little one in the house. Your post makes me want to get back to Punch-Out!! on VC.

    On the site notes that sounds great on all three. Looking forward to more coffee posts and gaming nights if the schedule works out.

    With the Steam sale, July was a huge gaming month for me and possibly garnered more time than January-June combined.

    The list:

    - Portal 2 (W00T!)
    - StarCraft
    - BitTrip.Runner
    - Plants Vs zombies
    - Toki Tori
    - Killing Floor
    - Crayon Physics Deluxe
    - Trine
    - Galcon Fusion
    - VVVVVV
    - Super Meat Boy

    Finishing Portal 2 took up a good bit of July with how I spread it out in small chunks. As with Portal in 2010, P2 was one of the best games I've played. Looking forward to putting more time into it and possibly doing some co-op. no luck so far.

    Crayon Physics was another cool game and an unexpected gem.

    @My Little Gamer: nice on the win7 machine. I upgraded my laptop earlier this year and am enjoying it.
