Caffeinated Thoughts
I remember seeing initial coverage for Skylanders Spyro's Adventure and thinking that it was a very unique idea for a game. If you have not seen the idea behind the game, the video below will give a decent idea:

Basically, now you can literally "play" with toys in a video game. I honestly can see this continuing to be a success with proper marketing, and perhaps expanding to other toys.

Seeing Skylanders Spyro's Adventure average hours "Per person" being more than 20 hours on its debut is extremely impressive, and shows the audience playing this "game" seems to really be enjoying it, as I believe the Amazon.com customer reviews testify as well.

I have never played a Spyro game, but I am definitely interested to see how this game continues to do. Mrs. Coffee watched the trailer as I was downloading it, and when she realized what it was she said, "Oh no, that game used to make me sick!" Now, I don't know which older Spyro game she played, but the flying/gliding/free camera movement aspect is what made her sick. Hopefully though, that would not be such an issue with this game, as she could choose which character(s) to play with.

Questions
Have any of you been playing Skylanders Spyro's Adventure? If so, what do you think of the game, good or bad? If you haven't played Skylanders Spyro's Adventure, were you a fan of the older Spyro games?

  1. Here's a series I don't think about much anymore - but I recall Spyro's earliest adventures. My oldest is not much of a gamer now, but when she was little, this was probably her all-time-favorite Playstation game. I don't think I've picked up a Spyro title though, in at least 7 or 8 years.

  2. I've only played the original Spyro by Insomniac via PS1 Classics on PSN. I liked what I played, but I remember when I rented it when I was younger that I got a headache from the jaggy visuals.

    7-8 years makes sense some though, as the series kind of had a mediocre run(from what I have read) during the middle 2000s. Apparently though, this one here is not only a fresh idea, but seems to be pretty popular right now.

    Kind of funny you mentioned, "jaggy visuals". In my research/ADHD phase of writing this post, I was looking at the older games on YouTube, and I remember thinking, "Yup, those are the graphics don't stand the test of time, and perhaps and update is due."

    Thank you both for the comments/feedback! If anybody else reads this post, and you have played this game, please leave a comment/feedback letting us know what you think of it.

  5. @Coffee - so, sort of interesting that you posted this. I just read that 3 of the older Spyro games are going to be given away with the Playstation Plus offers next week. I do believe they are 3 of the earliest titles, under PS1 classics, so I may have to take a small trip down memory lane there. :)

    Interesting. Glad to see PlayStation Plus members still getting some love, and glad to see Sony supporting the service. I didn't sign up for the service, so I don't know how well it has been working out for those that are subscribed to it.

    @Richard:
    Did you play the other Spyro games after the original?

    Thanks for the comments/feedback!

  8. @Coffee - it was funny yesterday. I showed my oldest that I had grabbed the game, and I am sure I've mentioned before, but she's not a big gamer. She plays like 3 or 4 different titles a year is all. Just sticks with what she likes. She gave me a big hug and said "You're my best friend" - so that was pretty funny coming from a 15 year old.

    Even funnier? My younger two were both playing the crap out of it yesterday and thoroughly enjoying it. Neither one had ever played a Spyro game before, so that was cool.

    Dunno if you saw my recent blog article about Xbox live vs Playstation + but yeah - I'm definitely digging the Playstation plus service. The free minis and PS1 Classics, plus the other free titles have been worth it alone imo.
