June Brewed - Coffees Consumed, Games Played

Coffee Beans:
     June is over?  Really?  E3 has come and gone, and now we know a little bit about Nintendo's next console, the Wii U, though I really haven't expressed my thoughts about the system in a written piece here on the site...perhaps this month?

     July is here, and it's going to be crazy busy(more on that later), so let's take a quick look at the games I played in June, and the coffees I consumed.

Coffees Consumed in June:
     Maxwell House Breakfast Blend (Mild) - This big container lasted until about mid-June and it has been one of the more regular Maxwell House coffee blends Mrs. Coffee has bought us in recent months.  We enjoy it, as I enjoy most of the coffee blends she purchases us.
     New England Coffee Colombian Supremo Blend - This "surprise" coffee purchase has survived a few months, and I have a little left as of the beginning of July.
     Two Cups of Chick-Fil-A coffee - Some of you may be thinking, "Coffee, if you work where you can get coffee daily, why didn't you consume more of it?"  Well, the main reason I didn't drink more coffee at work is because it's been HOT outside!  While I enjoy drinking coffee, I enjoy drinking coffee while it's hot.  So, while at work, I stick more with the Chick-Fil-A lemonade, and when I get home in the evening, I brew up a pot of my own coffee.
     Folgers House Blend (Medium Roast) - Folgers?!  Yea, that's right, Mrs. Coffee actually bought another big container of Folgers coffee in June.  We still have about half the container left, and I have been enjoying it.  I can't remember the last time Mrs. Coffee purchased us a container of Folgers coffee, but I guess she decided it was time to give them another go...and perhaps the price was also a factor.
     Seattle's Best Coffee Organic House Blend - This was another "surprise" coffee purchase for me.  I've been enjoying it, and though it's a smaller bag, it did last through June.

Games Played in June:
     Monster Hunter Tri - I made good progress in Monster Hunter Tri in May, and I thought that June was starting off with only one quest left in the game until I "completed" the single-player campaign.  Well, I was wrong.  I still have about three more quests, and a big thanks to my friends from WhoBurnedMyToast.Blogspot.com(and no I didn't burn it!) for informing me of what quests to finish.  Here's hoping I'll finish Monster Hunter Tri in July...but July is going to be a crazy month(I think this is twice I've said it now)!
    Greg Hastings Paintball 2 (PS3) -  Majesco had been kind enough to send me a "review" copy of Greg Hastings Paintball 2 on the Wii last September, and when the game just released on the PlayStation Network, Majesco's PR firm was able to provide me with a "review" code for the game, and I already provided some coverage of the game HERE.  The PS3 version plays basically the exact same as the Wii version, though the graphics are definitely crisper overall, and there is at least one graphical effect the PS3 game has that I've noticed, that the Wii version didn't(more on this later).
     GoldenEye 007 (Wii) - If you missed my GoldenEye 007 controls post/video, it's the post directly underneath this one...or right HERE.  While I recorded some footage of the single-player campaign for the video, I did play several matches in online multi-player, and even played some matches this afternoon(first game for July).

Thoughts/Questions:
     While I drank more coffees in June, than I played video games, I'm hoping to start playing games more often; starting this month!
     I failed to finish any game from my backlog list, though I made some progress in Monster Hunter Tri.  It really is a beast of a game, and well worth the $30 asking price if you're interested in it.

     Anyway, what games did you play in June, and coffees(or other beverages) did you find yourself drinking?

  1. I won't be drinking coffe/tea/cocoa or any other hot drink until October lest I melt lol.

    I really interested in getting monster hunter but I've got quite a few other games I need to play first.

  2. Come summer-time, my beverages mostly consist of water or the occasional beer - but it's way too hot for coffee or tea unfortunately - at least for me.

    Games... um, lots... as usual (and yes, I do sleep guys. Just... not a lot. I'm one of those people who seriously only needs a few hrs a night, so don't worry the wife and kids are like, totally neglected and I only pay them visits when the power goes out in the house or something)

    - Marvel Pinball
    - PSN Tetris
    - Magic the Gathering 2012
    - Orbz
    - Streets of Rage 2
    - Magic the Gathering: Duals of the Planewalkers
    - Modern Warfare
    - Modern Warfare 2
    - Black Ops
    - Sonics 1 & 2
    - Dead Space: Extraction
    - Portal 2
    - A trio of Castlevania games (finally beat LoS)
    - God of War collection
    - Star Craft 2
    - Neverwinter Nights 2
    - Lunar Harmony
    - Prolly a few I've forgotten...

  3. When Summer comes around, I usually start reading books instead of playing video games so I can be outside in the sun. I'm on my fifth book since the middle of June.

    I still play Call Of Duty 4 at work with coworkers every week day and Gran Turismo 5 is my game of choice at home when it's raining (or not).

    I can't really remember if I played anything else at the beginning of the month. I probably put in a round or two of Black Ops Zombies and maybe a 5-10 minutes of PilotWings Resort, but that's about it.

    Also I've been drinking lots and lots of lemonade.

  4. Coffees Consumed:
    Eight O' Clock: Hazelnut, Original Blend, Mocha
    Ian's Tea Shoppe and 2nd Street Coffee: Nuts and Berries (I've killed for less)

    Games Played:
    The Legend of Zelda - NES
    Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - NES
    Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - SNES
    Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - N64
    Red Steel - Wii
    Goldeneye 007 - Wii

    If you can't tell, I've had a specific focus for last month. This month will be similar in some respects. My wife had a small sampling of video games growing up and never got into them. So, I've been taking her through another series (the last one was Resident Evil).

  5. Melitta classic as usual and green tea.

    Games:
    - Kid Icarus: Put much more time into it this month and actually made some progress. The bad part is that I'm still on 1-3..
    - Solomon's Key
    - 007 GoldenEye
    - StarCraft

    Android:
    - Plants Vs Zombies
    - Angry Birds (orig, seasons, rio)
    - Turbo Grannies (ugh)
    - My Paper Plane 2
    - Peggle
    - Kona's Crate
    - PBA Bowling 2
    - aTilt 3D Labyrinth

    Whoh, hitting the casual games harder this month. (more on that later) Been watching the Amazon appstore's daily 'free app of the day' and it's hard to resist the games since I have plenty of storage.

    July should be an interesting month especially for us Steam users. About to drop the hammer on purchase #6 so far.

    @Chalgyr: You're really killing me there with Portal 2 and StarCraft 2. :)

  6. @Tim - good games to be focused on though!

    @Robert - Kid Icarus... I should dust that one off again. I remember being a big fan of it when I was younger.

    I see a lot of the casual games in there - nothing wrong with that tho.

    And yeah, StarCraft 2 has been all single player so far, but enjoying it. Portal's been getting played our 360 in my den, so no internet/online at all, but my son and I are having a blast with it so far.

  7. @Tim - I missed your post, nice Zelda action.

    @Chalgyr - I'd recommend the VC version of Kid Icarus if possible since you can suspend play without writing the codes. (even though it doesn't support the classic cheat codes)

  8. That's one thing I *really* like about the VC games - the ability to save. Makes such a difference in games like Metroid, Kid Icarus, Simon's Quest, etc.

  9. World of Warcrack
    Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition

    I've just been drinking Trader Joe's Espresso Organic blend. I can't get enough!

  10. World of Warcrack... finally gave that up about a year or so ago. Have played two different 'times' now, one right after release, got a few chars to 60, then started an all new account a few years later, maxed that one out and just quit.

    Been contemplating super street fighter 4 arcade edition. I never picked up super, but had the original #4 and enjoyed it quite a bit.

  11. Looks like Blizzard is looking to get more addicted to WoW via their free 'Starter Edition'. I've never played it and don't plan to get started at this point. :)

  12. @Chalgyr:
    Nice work from your post as well! You've got your fingers in a lot of pies. Do you hammer them out one at a time? Or do you spread yourself out? I get too wrapped up in story-lines for me to play more than 2 or 3 at a time (Unless there is no real depth to the game i.e. Tetris).

    @Robert:
    Again, your taste in retro gaming inspires me.... and what the poop is "Turbo Grannies"? lol

    @Charlie Chang:
    You ended up getting your copy of SS4:AE. Is it what you hoped it would be?

    P.S. I just picked up a PS3 (yes, it's about time), so the proverbial game has changed for me. Currently own Bioschock 1 and 2 and looking to expand my horizons. Any recommendations?

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Tim - For SS4:AE there were the addition of 4 new chars, which I don't use and some nerfs and buffs to everyone else. Over all it's the same game lol.

    Get Metal Gear Solid 4 for PS3 and the God of War games.

  14. Are you going to focus on the online portion of Tri in the near future Coffee? Maybe after you finish the offline portion.

    As for games I have been playing.
    Monster Hunter Tri. I just recently crossed the 1,300 hour mark with my 1st character.I'm a little over HR 300 now.

    I also payed Umbrella Chronicles a little bit more. I really only need to work on getting S rank on all the missions. I also played a little bit more of No More Heroes 2.

  15. @Tim - depends on the game, and what my family is up to. Usually I have a few games going at once - and then it just depends on where I'm plopped down and playing - but we have stuff spread out through the house. Then again, the family was all gone the other night so I just sat down and did Dead Space: Extraction on my Wii in about 7 hours or so all in one night. hehe

    "I won't be drinking coffe/tea/cocoa or any other hot drink until October lest I melt lol."
    I don't know how you survive the summer without caffeine, though I do understand the temperature outside playing a huge factor...iced coffee perhaps? Caffeinated coffee is a must for me.

    @Chalgyr:
    "Games... um, lots...", LOL, your list is crazy! Are you sure you "work" during the day?

    @Jonath:
    "Also I've been drinking lots and lots of lemonade."
    I try to get a glass of lemonade each day at work, as it's freshly made with real lemons, and I think it's got a great flavor.

    As for, "I still play Call Of Duty 4 at work with coworkers every week day..."
    Is your work game related, or do you just have a really nice break-room setup?

    @Tim:
    So, are you saying you highly recommend the coffee shop coffee?
    Lots of retro games in your list again, and I'm glad to see Red Steel found some play-time...hopefully still enjoyable, and not controller breaking!

    @Robert:
    "...green tea."
    I don't know what happened with me and green tea, but I used to be able to drink it and really enjoyed it for a few years. Then about 4 years ago, I was drinking it as usual one day, and it made me super sick...and I thought, "Ah, just a bad batch." I tried some more later, and the same thing...even to this day, for some odd reason green tea now makes me super sick, and I'm not sure why.

    "Android"
    What Android phone do you have, and would you recommend it?
    I'm looking at upgrading my phone, as it's been probably 3-4 years and mine is ready for an upgrade.

    @Charlie Chang:
    I didn't realize you got BACK into Warcrack...it really is a drug!

    *sets up a World of Warcrack counseling/recovery service and applies for federal grant money, I'm sure I'll get approved with all the crazy grants that are sent out every year

    @Chalgyr:
    "World of Warcrack... finally gave that up about a year or so ago."
    You just THINK you gave it up...like Charlie, you will cave in and join back!

    @Robert:
    Yea, I saw the free WoW "Starter Edition", and a friend even emailed it to me, saying he thought it was "convenient" timing with the announcement that Star Wars Galaxies is shutting down later this year...

    @Tim:
    "P.S. I just picked up a PS3..."
    Sweet! My PSN name is Hoj_Latte, feel free to send me a friend request!

    As for games, I only have a few:
    Mirror's Edge, Borderlands(playing online co-op slowly with Keith from RespawnAction.com on this one), Call of Duty: World at War(Zombie Mode mainly), Black Ops, and Resistance: Fall of Man. I also own a few downloadable games as well: Battlefield 1943, inFamous, Little Big Planet, Greg Hastings Paintball 2.

    Depending what you like, if you are looking for a cheap, but fun FPS single-player campaign, I would recommend Resistance. Borderlands seems like it would give anybody LOTS of game-play hours, and I've enjoyed what I have played of it...

    I have one more PS3 game, but will do a post about it once I play it, as it deserves its own post just because of how I got it.

    @Charlie Chang:
    Metal Gear Solid 4...are you really recommending the movie? Interesting...

    @Maxi:
    "Are you going to focus on the online portion of Tri in the near future Coffee? Maybe after you finish the offline portion."
    Not sure, as I know some guys(WhoBurnedMyToast.Blogspot.com) want me to finish the online as well as the single-player...so I may try more of the online, but I'm not sure when.

    Thank you all for the comments/feedback!

  17. @coffee - ROFL - welcome back. Saw the title of your other post and KNEW what you were going to say inside - very happy for you.

    And yup, I do work. I simply sacrifice sleep, but completely consider that optional!

  18. @Tim:
    Again, your taste in retro gaming inspires me.... and what the poop is "Turbo Grannies"? lol

    lol, your Zelda push is pretty inspiring as well. As for Turbo Grannies, sigh, it's a little android game that looked kind of fun, but wasn't very good. The controls were iffy regardless of what I did so I uninstalled it. Also seems a but suspect that it's not on Amazon's app store any longer...

    P.S. I just picked up a PS3 (yes, it's about time)

    Nice and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit envious. Trying to wait and see what the Wii U offers. As for games, I'm not really one to ask, but LBP/LBP2 is something I would personally look at.

    And as for Chalgyr's massive gaming, I was wondering about that as well. I usually obsess about a few titles and don't hop around too much. Maybe injecting some phone games in between.

    @Coffee:
    That is really weird with green tea. At times ginger tea makes my stomach feel a little odd, but nothing major.

    What Android phone do you have, and would you recommend it?

    I have a HTC Incredible on Verizon and really like it. I've had it over a year now (got it on release day), but it's still a very good phone with lots of memory and a good cpu. (htc sense and their MS Exchange ActiveSync implementation is nice too) I don't believe they offer the phone now, but they do have the Incredible 2. It appears to be very similar with some upgrades like a slightly larger screen (smaller than 4.3" which is good), front camera, global radio and maybe some other stuff.

    If I were to get another it would probably be an incred 2, perhaps the droid charge (samsung) or HTC ThunderBolt. Though I hear the tbolt has horrible battery life on the 4G radio. The thing is I think the guy I spoke with said it had two radios so simultaneous voice and data is possible.

    At any rate, yeah, I'd certainly recommend the incredible and overall I prefer HTC over motorola. What do you think about the Xperia? I don't know anything about it, but it says something about being PlayStation certified and being pre-loaded with console-quality games...

  19. @Coffee:
    FWIW, I pretty much always have the basic green tea from Twinings. Not that I want you to get sick again, but if you do attempt to try some maybe a different brand would help.
