Black Ops 2 Wii U patch available.

Black Ops 2's main multiplayer screen.

Coffee Beans
Treyarch had a history of supporting their Call of Duty titles on the Nintendo Wii post launch with patches aimed at fixing certain issues, or just making general improvements. Treyarch's newest Call of Duty title, Black Ops 2, did not release for the Wii, but it did release for the Wii U.

Do you own a Wii U and a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? If so, there is now a new patch for the game that is available. The video below provides a few details:

The Brew
If you didn't/can't watch the video, here are a few bullet points on the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 patch for the Wii U:
  • The patch starts downloading immediately upon trying to launch the game.
  • The patch took (me) less than 10 minutes to download and install.
  • The patch now allows the Wii U GamePad Home button to be pressed while online between matches, or just looking at statistics not during a match.
  • Pressing the Home button will allow you to capture the image on the TV (and GamePad) for posting to Miiverse.
  • Pressing the Home button will back you out of the online server to the main Black Ops 2 multiplayer screen (see: main image above), so if you're in a party with friends you may want to wait.
  • Treyarch has acknowledged there are "some issues with the version of the patch", but they are working with Nintendo and have stated they are hoping an update might be provided tomorrow.
  • *Patch size is currently 94 MB for all patches released. (Last update around March 20th.)
My Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 combat record.

Caffeinated Thoughts
I have only played a few matches today since the patch released, and I didn't experience any issues that I was aware of post-patch. The ability to hit the GamePad's Home button is a great addition, and I'm really glad to see Treyarch get that worked into this latest patch.

Like I mentioned in the video above, if you have a Wii U and Black Ops 2 or if you're just looking for additional Wii U friends, feel free free to add my Nintendo Network ID to your Wii U friend list, which is Coffees!

Questions
Have any of you been playing Black Ops 2 on the Wii U, if so, have you enjoyed the online multiplayer? Also, are there any particular issues you have experienced since this patch was released that might need to be addressed with another one?

  1. I've been playing this, but only on the PS3. My son has been playing since the patch there as well, and says it does resolve several of the problems he had been seeing, but he's much more familiar with the game than I am. He is nearly ready to prestige a 2nd time, and I'm only now approaching my first. ;P

  2. Sounds like he and I have been playing about the same amount....well, I have about another 15 or so levels to go, but will get there eventually I'm sure. I have seen some apparently "maxed out" and one I think was a Level 8 today....I have no clue what those people do, but apparently they are like you and their REAL job is playing video games all day. ;)

Being that you and he both play it, I would love to know how well the Wii U GamePad multiplayer option works. Bean 1 isn't quite there yet, and Mrs. C doesn't really play FPS games, so I haven't had the chance to try the "splitscreen" aspect of the Wii U version.

Thanks for the comment and feedback!

  3. The patch fixes many problems, not including the patch itself.

  4. Do you have Black Ops 2 for the Wii U?! I actually experienced on issue yesterday, the stuttering gun issue, where the gun stutters like you are running with it, even though you aren't running. I really didn't have any issues with the game before the patch, so I'm not sure what they were addressing (I think maybe a Wii Remote control issue was one), but I hope they smooth it out quickly. It really is a good FPS for online multiplayer and using the GamePad to play is awesome.

  5. How is the online community for this holding up? I know one of the problems a lot of people have with the Wii U version is that the community is far smaller than the other consoles and its hard to get a match in some of the modes.

But I haven't played the game myself, and likely never will,so I thought I would ask you :-)

  6. The online is growing slowly but surely. I have never had an issue hopping online and playing Team Deathmatch battles, which are what I play 99% of the time.

I have only played 2 of the other modes, Domination (I think) and I think Free-For-All (everybody against everybody).

If you enjoy the basic Team Deathmatch battles like I do, I HIGHLY recommend buying it just for that reason alone. I honestly can't say how the other modes are, simply because I haven't played/tried to play them; but I can tell you that if it's 10AM, 2PM, 8PM, 4AM, even 6AM, I haven't had an issue getting into a Team Deathmatch battle.
