Is Ōkami for the PS3 worth $20? How many hours can you expect from Ōkami? Data Report

Coffee Beans
Should you judge a book game by its cover? Can a video game's box art help sell it? I have a friend that loves wolves, almost anything to do with wolves. Right after he purchased a Wii he was in Game Stop looking around, when he noticed a white wolf on a game box. The game was Ōkami for the Wii, and he left Game Stop with Ōkami because the box art caught his attention.

Ōkami was originally released for the PlayStation 2, and originally developed by Clover Studio (now closed) and published by Capcom. The game was updated with Wii motion controls, and released for the Wii in North America on April 15, 2008. Both the PlayStation 2 and Wii versions of Ōkami received an ESRB rating of "Teen" with "Blood and Gore, Crude Humor, Fantasy Violence, Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco" listed as content for games and parents to be aware of.

If you're a PlayStation 3 owner and haven't played Ōkami yet, but are interested in the soon to be released PS3 version of the game, how many hours can you expect from it? Well, how many hours have U.S. Wii owners reported playing Ōkami and what is the average number of hours played "Per person"? Brew yourself some coffee, and let's take a look!

Meet Mr. Rathalos and Ms. Rathian - Monsters Hunted

Mr. Rathalos
Coffee Beans:
I have been playing Monster Hunter Tri more regularly since April(this year).  It is one of the games on my backlogged list, and I am almost finished with the game's single-player campaign now.
While I have been slowly monster hunting my way through the single-player campaign, I recently hopped online a few nights and did some monster hunting with fellow monster hunters.
Below are two monster hunt videos from Monster Hunter Tri.  One video is of a Rathalos hunt, and one is a video of a Rathian hunt.

Monster Hunter 3 w/ Classic Controller Pro's Amazon.com sale rank is #3,547 and the current advertised selling price is $84.98.

The Monster Hunter 3 w/ Classic Controller Pro bundle has been sold-out, each day that I have checked since May 2.

GameRankings.com Review Score Averages:
Monster Hunter 3's review score average is now 85.98%, based on 41 reviews.

Monster Hunter 3 has gained twelve reviews for its average since 2 weeks ago, raising its average from 85.07%.

Thoughts:
As I stated above, the Monster Hunter 3 CCP bundle has been sold-out on Amazon.com each day I have checked, since May 2.  I do not think Amazon.com will be getting anymore bundles with the Classic Controller Pro.

In the last month since Monster Hunter 3 released, I have had the opportunity to play with several readers from the blog; Butcher, DEN, and Seph are the main ones.

Here's a video introducing my Monster Hunter 3 character, and showing some arm wrestling matches in the game:

As I mentioned in the video, both DEN and Butcher run the gaming blog, WhoBurnedMyToast.Blogspot.com.  They interviewed Shawn Baxter (A.K.A. Snow) from Capcom-Unity.com, and Shawn talked about the things that went into bringing Monster Hunter 3 to North America, and even a few tips for hunting online.
One thing Shawn mentioned in the podcast, that I thought was crazy, is how many Hunter Ranks there are in Monster Hunter 3.
I am currently Hunter Rank 9.  I think I could play this game for the next year, at my current pace, and never reach the highest Hunter Rank in the game.
You can take a listen to their Podcast: Episode 16 to hear more from the interview with Shawn and about Monster Hunter 3.

Questions:
Are you still playing Monster Hunter 3?  If so, leave your online name/code in the comments, and hopefully we can play some together this next week!
What HR have you reached in the game and what is the highest level monster you have defeated?

The highest level monster that I have defeated is the Barroth with DEN and Butcher.  I attempted a Gobul hunt three times yesterday and was destroyed by it all three times!
If reader CrashMan/Seph is reading this, I apologize for that Gobul hunt!

If you have not purchased Monster Hunter 3 yet, you can see new and used prices for the game on Amazon.com below!  Join the hunts!

Monster Hunter 3's Ironbeard McCullough

Monster Hunter 3's Ironbeard McCullough shares his experience making the first commercial for Monster Hunter 3.

Monster Hunter 3 is releasing on the Nintendo Wii this coming Tuesday, April 20!
Capcom has already started advertising the game, with a commercial starring Ironbeard McCullough.
I have read the commercial was spotted during a commercial break for the Oprah program, so I think Capcom is attempting to advertise this game to a wider Wii audience.
If you haven't seen the Monster Hunter 3 television commercial, I'm including it here:

After I watched the Monster Hunter 3 commercial, I sent a message over to Capcom and just let them know I thought the commercial was good, and I also shared a commercial idea I had for the game, not even knowing if I was sending the message to the right place.
Well, I checked my inbox the next day and I had received a reply, again from Ironbeard McCullough.

This was Ironbeard's reply:

"Ahoy Scott,

Thankee kindly fer yer comments.  And I like yer idea, though I'm not sure I can handle another commercial fer a wee bit(fer that spot, they gave me this "blush" t' bring out me "cheek bones".  Itches like a kelbi fur hat!).  So they'll have t' stick with me and the Lagi right now.

But who knows what the future'll hold?!  I guess we'll see!

And hunt.

Always hunt!  Ahahaha!

Take care, and be sure t' say ahoy from time t' time.

Yer mate,
Ironbeard McCullough"

My Thoughts:
I think it is great that Capcom is already advertising Monster Hunter 3, and I think it is very smart to advertise the game on programs like Oprah.  I'm not sure how long Capcom plans on advertising the game, and I really hope they do another commercial perhaps after the game is released, announcing the "opening" of hunting season within the game.
Ironbeard himself wasn't sure about another commercial, but if he is in another one, perhaps they can let him do it without the blush!

Questions:
Have you seen the Monster Hunter 3 commercial on television?  If so, what station/program was it advertised during?
If you didn't know anything about Monster Hunter 3, and you saw the commercial, would it pique your interest in the game?

My wife and I don't have cable tv(or even an antenna hooked up), so I first saw the commercial on YouTube.
I think the commercial may have piqued my interest, because of the use of the crab fishing at the beginning.  I enjoyed the television show, Deadliest Catch, when we had cable, so the commercial would have probably captured my attention with that footage.
I wonder what Oprah viewers think of the commercial if they have no idea what the game is about?

Thanks again to Ironbeard McCullough for his response!
If you missed my first few articles/interviews with Ironbeard McCullough, I'm including the links below:

If you're interested in purchasing Monster Hunter 3, Amazon.com has release day delivery for the game, so you can get it next Tuesday without going to a store:
